Maybe Bush never wanted to BE president himself,
especially not for his second term, but friends and family and others persuaded him to.

I thought of this yesterday. Since it appears that he has, ahem, health problems, he very likely would rather be hanging around at his farm in Crawford than being president. (Yeah, I know, he does a lot of them even if he is president.) He sucks at public speaking and can't deal with anyone disagreeing with him. He's a Charlie McCarthy anyway.

I can imagine him not wanting to run again in 2004, but others persuading him to, rather than the party changing horses in mid-stream.

2. well let's start with he's an idiot
so he might have actually thought he wanted to be president without understanding what that would REALLY be like.

Oh well. Let's end with, he's still an idiot.

3. But didn't you know?
He's God's appointed and anointed one....he really believes that. I can't imagine someone who thinks that it's his duty to push forth a faith based agenda didn't want to run in 2004 - plus, he had to up one on ole poppy.

9. That, my friend, is called "The Divine Right of Kings"
George bush is a throwback to the Middle Ages, when kings (and the poor, unwashed masses) believed they ruled because they were chosen by God to do so and were accountable to no one but God.

11. On a PBS documentary, The Jesus Factor,Dr. Richard Land,
head of the Southern Baptist Convention Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, said that Bush had told him, after he won the Texas governorship for the second time, that he believed that God wanted him to be President.

13. Isn't that the
scariest thing you ever heard? I get really freaked out sometimes thinking that this nation is headed up by a delusional, arrogant self appointed religious freak - not to take away from the fact that he really is as stupid as he seems. :scared:

5. I don't think he did.
That ambition is absent. Most Presidents really, really, really wanted to be there, and will talk and reflect on this. Clinton, Reagen, Carter, Nixon, for better and for worst, waited their whole lives to get in the hot seat.

Both the Bush's entered through the back door, more or less.

6. I Think That poppy Looked At the Presidency...
...as a reward for a long career, not a job.

jr., as always, had it handed to him. He doesn't expect to do any actual work.

19. Poppy got into politics
because he admired the opulent lifestyle his father, Prescott, acquired when he became Senator. He and Bar loved the parties, too. Poppy's political resume consisted mostly of a series of appointed positions: Ambassador to China; U.N. Ambassador (held for 6 months). I doubt Junior ever dreamed of being President until he was drafted, but I'm sure he loves the perks: his very own jet; being waited on hand and foot; ordering people to die at his whim; not to mention those great desserts.

7. He followed the Texas Model
Weak Governor model.

He really didn't do much. Just "pontificated" over what the legislature did and what the cabinet implemented. He was more of a figure-head for the state.

He thought "presidentin'" would be similar. Unfortunately, Cheney and the gang wanted to consolidate all power into the Executive Branch which meant that "presidentin' " would be much much more than a figure-head....

8. Bush is just doing what mommy told him to do.
I personally can identify with bush. I did what my parents thought was important. But at some point in time, I began doing what I thought I should do. And it was very uncomfortable. I have a mother who shares facets of Barbara Bush. Very controlling, in a super subtle way.

Bush never wanted to be anything. He has no calling. No intelligence to speak of. Although Barbara says he's "stupid as a fox". Maybe she knows something I don't. I may be wrong. But George is very good at biking, chainsawing, and most physical labor. He should have been a brick layer.

This is what happens when people do what they shouldn't be doing. For example, Hitler should have been an artist. He was railroaded into being a figurehead for fascism. Sound familiar?

10. His idea of being President is the parties and ceremonies
He wants nothing to do with the work of the office.
He sees himself as King George and everything else is controlled by his court.

12. It's possible that he's just
suffering from alcohol induced alzheimer's.....alcohol kills the brain cells, y'see, and George wasn't the brightest of the lot to begin with.

16. Or at least the parties that are scheduled before his bedtime..
WASHINGTON -- President Bush was furious with the staff preparation for last week's inter-American summit in Argentina where his trade proposals ran into unexpected opposition.

(snip)

The crowning indignity for Bush was the Friday night state dinner starting at 10 p.m., an hour when the president normally is in bed. He left the dinner early, but it was midnight by then.

14. That Crawford farm is another prop from his campaign. Watch
him dump it the minute he's out of office and move back up to Connecticut. Fake texan accent, fake swagger, fake farm, fake all.

18. I'm convinced that the only qualification that bush* has for
being pResident is, he is weak, dumb as a box of rocks, so he can't question his handlers. Remember the handlers picked him not the other way around.
