Who thought democracy would take such a fall?
Edited on Sat Oct-18-03 10:09 AM by TruthIsAll
In Selection 2000, we were had
By a punch card paper chad
And that crooked Duval bunch
Made sure to double-punch

That bitch Harris and Bush set the scene
And that's why the Chimp was so serene
Predicting he would win the state
Cause Repuke votes come in late

Gore lost 16,022 votes in Volusia,
Said Dan Rather: It was a "computer glich",
Now we know what really happened
Votes were hacked; ain't that a bitch?

That Palm Beach mole LePore
Also stole the votes from Gore
She designed the Butterfly
Why? To fool old Jews; that's why

Al's votes were tossed,
We were all double-crossed
Jim Baker came to destroy us
Called to Tony the fixer at SCOTUS

And with the Scalia Five,
So did Fascism soon arrive
A judicial coup d'etat,
and America just stood pat

And Diebold's voting screen,
It's enough to make you scream
Proprietary to that Repuke bunch,
Dem votes just won't crunch

The 2002 Rob-Georgia hack
was another scheme from the pack
Zogby was astounded by the score,
never was so wrong like this before

Now we know, the polls were right,
but damn Diebold stole in plain sight
When the CEO said he'll deliver
Ohio for Bush, it made us shiver

They're moving as fast as they can
installing touch-screens all over the land
Certification is just a joke,
Election officials will never go broke

They won't let a demonstration
show the potential for manipulation
Without a voter-verified paper trail
We're better off to vote by mail

Election officials are so corrupt,
Our electoral process they would disrupt
They're just traitors on the take,
while democracy is itself at stake

Now I ask, who do you believe,
Computer scientists or these thieves?
They'll spend $5,000 for the machine,
while only $15 for paper would keep it clean

It's very basic and must be told
That our freedom has been sold
Without fair voting, we've lost it all
Who thought democracy would take such a fall?

1. I didn't expect it to be this bad

When it became obvious that bush 41's statement, after Florida was called for Gore, that "We've got a lot of work to do..." meant that he was calling in the favors owed by his and raygun's appointees to the SCOTUS meant that Gore had no chance I thought, "America is strong. We can survive this for 4 years."

My biggest fear was the court-packing. Right wing idealogues "interpreting the law" for the rest of their lives would affect me for the rest of mine.

At least the Dems in the Senate have regrown enough spinal tissue to filibuster the most extreme, hateful, anti-civil rights nominees that the imposter has put forward.

But now, almost 3 years later, I admit it. I am "shocked and awed" at the atrocious turn for the worse nearly every aspect of America, and what it means to be an American in the world, has taken. I saw a one-sentence summation of what we've allowed to happen to our once-great country by our disinterest in the theft of democracy.

"When you travel abroad, tell everyone you meet that you're from Canada."

It's completely beyond my ability to understand why the WalMart Nation wants the rest of the world to hate and fear us. But, apparently, many "Americans" do want just that.

"Pride goeth before a fall." I know I've read that somewhere. It must not have been in the Bible, though. We have "Christians" running our government, now. And nothing in their actions tells me that they understand what that simple statement means.

2. I did!
Nowhere in the Constitution does it say that the Supreme Court gets to elect the President. When we allowed that to happen, the fall was the only possible outcome. Stick around, it will get worse.

3. This has been coming for years
I only noticed it in 1992, but after Clinton was elected I watched it get worse. And back in those days, I really didn't give it much thought but I did notice how all the right wingers were gun loons as well. For me, this was a great big red flag - a warning that those in opposition to what I believed were arming themselves. I for one try not to blow such warnings off as paranoia. And just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me anyway.

4. Great stuff Truth!!!
I've come to see that the stage was set long ago. The stage this cabal now stands on was erected over many years and by many WH occupiers. The majority of this country's citizens (including myself first and foremost), for whatever reason, fell into compromise allowing us to go from left to center to right to now far right. It didn't happen overnight although it seems that way. It was always a matter of how much can you look the other way towards, as in selecting the worst of two evils for president.

Bush just took advantage of the opportunity and stepped onto that curtained stage. That curtain is meant to keep us from seeing the truth of what is behind it, but that curtain is growing old and getting thin. The veil is about to be rent(sp?).

Confronting Empire by Arundhatiroy of India...

<snip>
What can we do?

We can hone our memory, we can learn from our history. We can continue to build public opinion until it becomes a deafening roar.

We can turn the war on Iraq into a fishbowl of the U.S. government's excesses.

We can expose George Bush and Tony Blair - and their allies - for the cowardly baby killers, water poisoners, and pusillanimous long-distance bombers that they are.

We can re-invent civil disobedience in a million different ways. In other words, we can come up with a million ways of becoming a collective pain in the ass.

When George Bush says "you're either with us, or you are with the terrorists" we can say "No thank you." We can let him know that the people of the world do not need to choose between a Malevolent Mickey Mouse and the Mad Mullahs.

Our strategy should be not only to confront empire, but to lay siege to it. To deprive it of oxygen. To shame it. To mock it. With our art, our music, our literature, our stubbornness, our joy, our brilliance, our sheer relentlessness - and our ability to tell our own stories. Stories that are different from the ones we're being brainwashed to believe.

The corporate revolution will collapse if we refuse to buy what they are selling - their ideas, their version of history, their wars, their weapons, their notion of inevitability.

Remember this: We be many and they be few. They need us more than we need them.

Another world is not only possible, she is on her way. On a quiet day, I can hear her breathing.
