Original message
Day 7. 12/4/05 DRUMBEAT for PEACE. I need some suggestions
clearly my daily message on how to continue our upward escalation of antiwar involvement through letter-writing, emails, phone calls of senators, governors, and representatives has met with little response. If you don't quite agree with this...or the idea doesn't resonate with you....please share modifications to the idea or methods. I'm open. I surely won't give up my own efforts, but I'm hoping for more action. I'm hoping for tie in to what others are now doing to coordinate and communicate our outrage against this continued occupation of Iraq and death of US soldiers.

---------------------------------------------------------

Here?s what we need to do: fire at the spin masters with daily and relentless communication of our anger about this war and our rejection of it. We need numbers, people. We need volume. Here is what I am proposing. We need help from 49 or more of you to give me your state?s key information for contacting people about our opposition of this war.

Ideally, each state?s list will include categories such as:

US Senators names and contact information
US Representatives names and contact information
State Governor?s office contact information
State?s NEWSPAPER (or newspapers) of record. Need editorial board?s contact emails, street address, phone, etc.
Metro area TV station names, contact into, emails.
Metro area Radio station names, contact info?etc.

If we have plenty of emails to go after, each of us can take a moment each day to send a distribution email to multiple local entities both public and private to register our protest against continued occupation of Iraq.

WE MUST DO THIS

DRUM BEAT TO PEACE

Sample Letter to the editor:

President Bush and his proxies are in full campaign mode trying to deceive us once again about what is going on in Iraq and what their future plans for Iraq really are. I believe both the US and Iraqi citizens have made quite clear that we do not want the US military occupying Iraq. We?ve lost too many young men and women in a war of choice based on false intelligence and hype. My question to Bush and his administration is why removing our troops from the streets of Iraqi cities would make the situation worse. As an informed US citizen, I am demanding of our public servants that they support our troops by bringing them home.

1. Please don't be discouraged...
Edited on Sun Dec-04-05 02:48 PM by ClassWarrior
People are asked daily by groups such as MoveOn to write letters to congresspeople, the media, etc. You just need to keep banging that drum relentlessly - and keep setting an example yourself. It may take longer than you expect, but it's all for the good.

Thanks for doing all that you do, and...

Never Give Up.

4. I promise I won't give up. just surprised. thank you though
because any amount of feedback can be even more encouraging and envigorating.

I am getting feedback from editors in various newspapers. It is so refreshing and amazing to feel you are being heard.

What I've seen in DU after all my time here (year 2002) and what I've seen since being involved in national politics (year 2000) is that we sometimes get too busy and distracted with so many things.

SOOOOO...I'm just going to keep my focus on ONE ISSUE and watch/support/cheer on others who pursue with single-minded devotion other issues that are so important.

My goal is to have verifiable proof that after 60 days I have 1,000 people emailing/calling writing their congress people and media members daily. I'm thinking small, but I think it's a start.

2. Check in with your local peace organization
see what they have planned to do. Sometimes it is something different than writing letters or signing petitions. We have two peace groups in Newton County AR, and they have joined forces and become affiliated with United for Peace and Justice, and we're planning an educational action at the courthouse.

3. I will definitely plan to do that. will get some ideas....here's what
I'm thinking, though. I am trying to get something going that isn't part of an acronym organization. I'm trying to get something going that isn't about a diffuse set of targets.

I have a grass roots effort I am taking on. I want Joe, and Jane, and Mary, and Bob involved--not Democracy.org or A.N.S.W.E.R or any of the others.

Certainly they have a big role in our national dialogue, but I want a new dimension. I want something that isn't about fundraising or getting marching permits or talk shows.

I JUST WANT PEOPLE TO RISE UP AND MAKE NOISE. I want guerilla protests. I want to widen the pursuit beyond the energetic who will stand with peace flags at rush hour in the cold. I want to get more voices from the farmer in Wisconsin, the auto worker in Michigan, the hotel manager in Florida, the construction business owner in Arizona. So...this is going to be my daily reminder to myself and to others that we have a long standing request turning into a demand.

BRING OUR TROOPS HOME NOW!!!
