"General apologizes for giving offense"
The general doesn't get it. His comments go way beyond being offensive. His comments further jeopardize the safety of our military by adding fuel to the fire of extremist argument, that our preemptive strike against Iraq was religion-based. The general (who was recently promoted!) has contributed to a ground-swelling of Muslim anger and support for guerilla stikes against our forces.

He should fired, immediately.

They are in his camp! Don't you know?... the lunatics are in charge of the asylum now and there's nothing we can do about it.

2. How can he get away with this?
He has directly contradicted his commander in chief, publicly no less, how does he get to keep his job? Bush has had kittens in his effort to get it across that, supposedly, his war on terror is not a war on Islam. But here comes this fanatic to say just the opposite. I don't get it.

3. He has exposed his commander and chief
As a double standard nazi. Bush has ordered the troops to shut up and stay out of politics while allowing this guy to promote the party line in uniform.

11. Excellent point

This apology business is as specious as using the excuse of terrorism to invade other countries.

"I'm sorry, I was misinterpreted" has become the GOP's magic elixir for heinous crimes committed by people in positions of power who put our national security at risk. In Japan or Germany, a person committing such an offense would either himself resign or be summarily dismissed.

4. Um....
...it's because Bush is lying. I can't figure out whether the buffoon in thief is actually a 'true believer' or if he's just being a political opportunist (see Bush's Brain regarding Rove's "conversion" at the Republican convention)...

7. I am getting this odd feeling. one of those things added to the pile?
You know when you read in History about the fall of this great empire or that? They list things, and usually not one thing, leading up to the turn around. Like in Rome one thing is the loss of its great army and the hiring of local to replace much of it. None seems to be from one thing at first but the basic part is weaken and then it falls often with a push from out side but from within is the real down fall.I have met many that think we have reached out peek 50 years ago and have started down. It has always been an interesting read to me. But may be it is true? Maybe when we dropped the 2 bombs in '45 it was the start? We became the War nation and in 50 years that once citizen army is now moving down into poor kids only fighting under rich men who will control by any means? Who knows, we have so many things that are working to take down this country. Lack of voters is a big one. Middle class going is another. Interesting that we seem to have moved to what we fought so hard to free our self from in 1776. One of those was the God given rights of that special ruling class.

When authority is restored, if the mediawhores ever get sent off to break rocks awhile, that is, there'll be a dreadful mess to clean up, but that's what workingmen/women do (clean up messes, build and maintain)

5. Ok the apology is an effort to
slow down or preferably stop the Sh*t storm that has hit
DC.

here is what YOU ALL DO.

You write a letter to DoD, and your congressional Delegation
as well as the local paper.

Here is what yuo do.

Do NOT adress what the man said, as disgusting as it is, after
all if Boyken went before the ACLU and engaged in politicking in
uniform is the same violation.

Here are some talking points.

He has put the lives of US Military Personnel at risk

he has disobeyed a direct legal lawful order NOT TO ENGAGE IN
POLITICS

He has undermined the Good Order and Discipline of the US Armed Forces

He has engaged in conduct unbecoming an officer of the US Army.

the last officer to be cashiered for similar behaviour was
Douglas McCarthur.

12. The General has nothing to apologize for. Honesty is the best policy

Taxpayers pay the General's salary, and they have a right to know what they are paying for.

And the only people who didn't know it is a Crusade believe Iraqis are grateful for their liberation and God chose bush to bring Jesus back to rapture the Christians and hurl the Jews into a lake of fire.

13. Normally I'd agree with you, but this isn't
a free speech or even honesty issue, this prick is trying to get thousands of us killed! Worse he's so wrapped up in his freakin' BORG mentality he probably doesn't even know it. I'd have shot the b*stard, flat out. Shot him dead for endangering innocent civilians.

14. His soldiers who express his sentiments with bullets are doing that

He is only expressing it with words.

I imagine that given the choice, the parents of the thousands of Iraqi children whose limbs have been blown off, if they were lucky enough to survive at all, would prefer the General's words.
