On Chris Matthews: Sullivan 'Liberman will be asked to be Sec of Defense"
:yoiks: What a mess that will make for '06. Of course, the terms RINO and DINO have moved into the mainstream media, so maybe it won't have a huge impact, but talk about a lose-lose for dems ... :sigh:

2. What the heck does Lieberman know about the military?
He loves war, but when he had a chance to serve, he had "other priorities," just like his pal Cheney.

McCain the "Chickenhawk"

LOL!

I don't agree with McCain, but he's forgotten more than Joe ever knew.

4. I really think that ** needs a military person
for SecDef. While Joementum's never met a Bush** military policy he couldn't support, not having a SecDef with practical strategic experience is hurting us, and will hurt us worse in the next year or so, as we try desperately to implement a pragmatic exit strategy.

5. Surely Lieberman would turn
down the offer. Also, Lieberman's Jewish heritage would provide another tool for terrorist recruitment. I really cannot see Liberman as Defense Secretary.

11. Lieberman is an "Israeli-firster"...everything that he does is to benefit
Israeli equally with the United States. Everything.

6. As a CT resident I think it would be fine.
He'd be better than Rummy and then CT would have an open slot to elect a more progressive senator. It would be very tough for any Republican other than Jodi Rell to win here. If Rell made an appointment to replace Joe it would only last until 06 I think.

There is growing sentiment to dump Joe, but even among progressives there are questions as to where energy and money will be best spent in 06. There are several Republican Reps like Simmons and Shays who are vulnerable.

I don't see how this could be a "lose, lose" situation. I see it as a "win, win."

10. Where is the "growing sentiment" to replace Lieberman?
Seems to me it's mostly among out-of-staters. Does Lieberman even have any primary opponent? The only opposition I know of pulled-out: the Fairfield U professor.

Also republicans are very good at recruiting "non-political" types like Schwarzenegger, Bloomberg, etc. It would be a fairly simple move for Rove, or whomever, to persuade some well-known, telegenic demagogue to establish incumbency and solidify a one-seat gain for the GOP in 2006.

Good luck, Mr. Secretary. And now to find a real Democrat to run for LIEberman's old seat.

16. The word is W's Mom wants Rummy's head
My first thought was that they'd turn to Bill Cohen as "bi-partisan" choice - but I can see the beauty of Liebs. Is he that stupid to actually take the job?

14. Fergit the Political Suicide - It's the Ticket to LOSING Anything
(Not baiting: ) The elephant in the room is that Joementum is for whatever's-best-for-Israel.

As for his will and skill in FIGHTING, yeah, he will gum the enemy to death like he did CHEENEE.

19. The wingnuts would REALLY abandon * if he did that.
After all, they're so stupid, they still think the NYT is "the liberal media". And they also think Lieberman is a flaming liberal. (Sure, all "flaming liberals" support war-for-profit.)

give the Republicans a "bi-partisan" out, and smear the Democratic Party. I'm so sick of that man.

28. here's Kristol's comment on Joe
Can't tell if he is serious or not, or tiral balloon or not.

http://www.weeklystandard.com/Content/Public/Articles/000/000/006/423jshnf.asp

So all Bush has to do is fight the war. And if he really wants to torment the Democrats--and advance the war effort--he could make Joe Lieberman Secretary of Defense.
