Did anyone else notice gas prices dropping
just in time for Christmas shopping? The Citgo I usually go to is down to $2.02. I can't remember when it was that low. Think it will go up Dec.26?

2. No, they won't go up until January 2nd.
Gotta keep them low so people really buy lots of stuff at those after Christmas sales.

18. No, they won't go up until...
Bush can afford to pay the polsters to keep his popularity numbers above the 30% range.

and it started right after the oil execs lied and info released on market manipulation. Coincedence? I think not.

6. Anybody gotten a home heating bill yet?
I haven't... I think they are delaying until everybody, feeling relieved from the lower gas prices, spends a lot more dough for X-mas. Then they'll hit us with the first Winter Heating Bill. Just a guess.

9. I'm on the budget plan so we pay the same year round, but
last month they raised my budget by $30, I'm guessing in anticipation of what's to come.

14. I am starting to turn my heat down at night
which is something I never did before. I used to keep my house at 70 degrees round the clock. Now it goes down to 65 at night and I only turn it up to 68 during the day. I am hoping it helps a little.

7. Sure, but the heating oil prices and natural gas has skyrocketed!
They're still getting their money, it's just coming from another source!

You do also realize that they have successfully altered your thinking, don't you? A year ago, $1.25/gal was the norm. NOW, you're happy it's under $2.00!!!!! That was the whole intent here.

15. Ding ding ding
This is EXACTLY what the evil oil companies wanted to do. Make us happy to see $2 a gallon. It's as low as $1.77 in some parts of Bergen County, NJ (as of last week) so that's even better. I remember when gas was under a dollar a gallon about 4-5 years ago...

21. It wasn't as long ago as 4-5 years! I know here in Ga. we were paying
.97-.99 about a year ago. I know Ga. has the lowest state taxes on gas in the country, but that's sure not reflected in the pricing anymore! The best I've seen is at Krogers when you use your card and it was #1.89.

I can't believe how easily the American people are manipulated!

The same damn thing happened in the 70's when they wanted to get that price up to +.60. There was a mysterious fas shortage, stations ran out, lines were long, and you had to buy gas on even/odd days based on your license plate. Then when they convinced everyone that they really did want that gold liquid, the price had risen from .29 to .67 and everyone was happy!!!!

8. No, it will bottom out somewhere around Halloween, just in time
for the GOP to try to claim they did it. Then, after the election, another spike!!!

I thought I was imagining things. Like it was one of those abandoned gas stations that still has the price up years later.

19. The Rise and fall of Oil Prices and Thanksgiving
Hopefully this thread will get some longevity, here was my post at Thansgiving...

The Rise and fall of Oil Prices and Thanksgiving

We see this cyclical price rise and fall almost every year.

Is it intentionally done to give consumers a sense that when it bottoms out from Thanksgiving through Christmas that we have more money at our disposal making us spend spend spend?

The media tells us that the high driving season of the summer is the reason oil prices rise to a peak yet Thanksgiving is the most traveled day of the year, more people are on the road this weekend.

Is the Thanksgiving holiday primarily a government trick to sustain the economy? All I see on TV are ads for shopping.

Am I a conspiracy theorist?

22. Yeah, how'd that happen?
Mine was $2.20 today. I don't remember the last time gas was that low around here. Oil is still $55 a barrel, although Saudi Arabia assures us that the oil market is "balanced" for the remainder of the winter. Yeah, I believe that. We are so being played by these fat fucks.

Edited on Fri Dec-02-05 07:03 AM by RebelOne
Isn't that nice of the oil companies. Drop the prices so we can get our Xmas shopping done and then raise them again after New Year's.

26. Actually prices here in Mid Mo have started to rise again
They made it down to $1.89 right before Thanksgiving weekend, and then started to climb. And here they are, a week later, sitting at $2.00/gal. And it is only going to get worse. After all, we have the "holiday driving season" which will cause gas to continue to rise through New Years, followed by "high home heating oil" prices which will enable the price to continue upwards until March, after which there might be a small retreat. But don't worry, they'll jack them right back up on Memorial Day, just in time for "summer driving season"

And this time next year, after hitting $4.00/gal plus next summer, we'll all be ever so thankful that gas is back down to three dollars a gallon.
