Rummy is General Dreedle.
From "Catch 22." Every time the men think they're going home, he raises the number of missions. Shameful. Bush, on the other hand is Milo Minderbinder, forever shifting excuses for the war. And, Cheney is Major Major, who's only 'in' when he's 'out.'

Thoughts?

1. You got it, Harry...Rove can be the evil Colonel Korn...
Every one of our soldiers is Yossarian, and we the people are Doc Deneeka, wrongly declared dead and therefore ignored.

2. Dreedle wanted to show the world how brave he was...
...by ordering his men to fly more and more missions. Yeah, that one fits.

Must disagree about Sneer as Major Major Major. Major was basically a decent fellow thrust into a leadership role. Sneer has clawed his way up the ladder, like Col. Korn wants to do.

Bush is no Milo Minderbinder, who was a true businessman who could make money by buying eggs for 5 cents and selling them for 3 cents at the mess hall. Milo even was willing to do businness with the enemy...just like Prescott Bush. Hey! That's not a bad analogy after all.

Great thread, DUers!

3. On 9/12
a friend of mine, a highly decorated veteran of WWII, told me that he hoped it (the "War of Terrorism") didn't become an excuse for the generals to throw ever increasing amts of money and young lives away in an attempt to further their careers.

I dont think I'm going to tell him about this.

4. We are all Yossarians now.
One of the great books of all time. I read it in Vietnam. It had a special relevance, believe me!

5. I LOVE CATCH 22.
But wasn't it Peckum who kept raising the # of missions? By the way, cheyney is Milo Minderbinder, bush jr. is more like Aarfy (The guy who kills the prostitute because he "never pays for it".

It's been 20+ years since I've read the book, so forgive me if I got Dreedle & Peckum mixed up.
