If you don't believe history is repeating itself, read this...
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3449870/

Eric Alterman takes the words from Nixon's mouth and puts them in W's.

1. And yet...
And yet, reading that I can't help but find it tragic that even Nixon, the previous criminal in office, was so much more eloquent than *.

6. Eloquent AND
he was being (apparently) candid with the American people. That's something Bush* doesn't even TRY TO DO.

13. Wasn't he and Johnson also
very involved with knowing what's going on etc? Bush just reads a script (and he even does that poorly!).

8. I recognized it about a third of the way through as Nixon's, but that's
just because I'm old enough to remember the original!

4. Alterman could have done more than a simple search and replace...
Very lazy "search and replace" he did... He replaced

"Vietnamese"

with

"Iraqese"

He should have proofread and properly switched to Iraqi in those several instances throughout the document.

A "10" for the idea.

A "5" for the sloppy execution of it. Shame on you Eric, spend a few more minutes next time.

5. I think it was intentional -- done to increase the effect
I think if he had used "Iraqi" instead of "Iraqese" the correlation wouldn't have been so obvious (to some people anyway).

7. That's possible, I found it distracting though...
I would have taken the opposite tact, but I see your point, definitely.

12. how is "Iraqese" worse than "misunderestimate" (or other words * invented)
If Alterman is putting words in bush's mouth, for the sake of accuracy, he should be making up words and mangling the language.

14. No, they just had the same thought processes on winning a war...
that is to just keep on 'staying the course'! And just look how well it worked out in Viet Nam.
