'Screaming' Man Dies After Shocked By Deputy
'Screaming' Man Dies After Shocked By Deputy

POSTED: 10:10 am EST December 1, 2005
UPDATED: 10:21 am EST December 1, 2005

A 47-year-old man died Thursday after sheriff's deputies in Orange County, Fla., shocked him several times with a Taser gun, according to a police report.

The Orange County Communications Center received a 911 call from an anonymous source at 6:18 a.m. Thursday about a man who was screaming at the entrance of the Big Oaks Mobile Home Park located on 15070 E. Colonial Drive.

The caller said the man was acting irrationally and trying to run into traffic, according to the report.

A sheriff's deputy arrived at the mobile home park just before 6:30 a.m. and noticed the man was "out of control" and sweating profusely.

1. So they tasered him to death to keep him safe from traffic.
The traffic hated his freedom.

3. All this new fangled "non-lethal" technology.
It seems like more people die from tasers than bullets lately.

4. God this is so sad and pathetic.
I don't know what we're going to do after my husband and I are dead and our autistic son (on meds) is left to fend for himself in a society that won't be able to watch out for him. No telling what kind of mental health problem this mand had.

7. Out of control and sweating profusely?
How about NO mental health problem? Not the first time cops have tasered a diabetic having a hypoglycemic incident. Sure, the other things could be the reason, but so could diabetes, a stroke or even a heart attack.

Just like injured animals, seriously ill people tend to become combative.

8. Somebody going off their regular meds without weaning from them
could have physical symptoms as well as disorientation and confusion.

5. Did he die from the taser, drugs, or both?
It will be interesting to see what the autopsy says.

11. Reminds me of this case...
Lawrence, Kansas: Gregg Sevier's parents called 911 because he was depressed and suicidal. They asked for a mental health professional but instead got two police officers who picked the lock to Gregg's bedroom door. Gregg pointed a knife at them and they shot him six times. One bullet went through Gregg and the wall and struck his sister Judy.
