man that Roosevelt was, so all the "fireside chats" in the world will never compare to what Roosevelt did for the little people. In order to even be in the same ballpark as Roosevelt, a president has to first care. This eliminates Bush all together.

Sen. Warner suggests Bush use FDR-like 'fireside chats'
WASHINGTON (AP) — The chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee on Sunday suggested that President Bush use an FDR-style presentation to update people on progress in the war in Iraq.

2. I think he'd rather be Teddy Roosevelt.
He ain't no T.R. either. He couldn't trick-or-treat as T.R.

3. Pul-lease, we already don't like the man, you think seeing him bumble
like an idiot through a "Fireside Chat" would somehow improve his popularity? The guy couldn't recite the alphabet without fucking up at least 3-4 of the letters

4. Bush, in his delusions thinks he will be
regarded as the greatest president that ever was. Not only does he want to be better than Roosevelt but also better than Lincoln, Kennedy, Washington, Eisenhower, TR, Reagan, and others. And his handlers apparently think they can pull it off too. It is amusing, annoying and pathetic at the same time.

9. you right
if he thinks he is the greatest president that ever was it is a delusion. He will go down in history as the most despised president ever.

He couldn't pull it off without some real bu$h speak. It would be a riot to watch him screw up.

11. no, he couldn't pull it off
there has to be a sincerity to what is said and he is such grouchy, stubborn man. It would be a disaster.

12. Interesting - local paper had an Op/Ed on how FDR 'lied' us into WW2
>>>Richard Hofstadter, one of the great liberal historians, wrote of FDR's "undeniably devious leadership" in the months and years before the war. Hofstadter, like countless other historians, agreed that FDR's diplomacy and politics were designed to push the United States through a "back door into war."

Historian Thomas A. Bailey wrote: "Roosevelt repeatedly deceived the American people during the period before Pearl Harbor. . . . He was faced with a terrible dilemma. If he let the people slumber in a fog of isolationism, they might fall prey to Hitler. If he came out unequivocally for intervention, he would be defeated" in the 1940 election.

13. FDR didn't want to get the US involved in the war before
Pearl Harbor. WWI had been a hard on the US and the country was "war weary". I don't think he lied about that. It was the truth, but after Pearl Harbor the country changed their mind on entering the war very quick. The lines were long for enlistment.

14. Fireside chats -- bring 'em on
Yeah that approach outghta work. Seeing as how public skepticism actually increases the more he runs his mouth. When he did his traveling flim-flam act in support of shoshecurity "reform", public disapproval soared. Later, all of his johnny-come-lately disasterpalooza appearances did nothing to convince the public they hadn't seen what they'd just seen re: Katrina. And 100 fireside chats won't achieve the memory modification necessary to erase the public's shared memory of being misled into supporting the Iraq invasion. He might as well throw gasoline on the fire.
