with the strippin part and arnie being hidden. i saw it two decades ago. never really like the interpretation of that scene in my brain. yet to learn what a pig the man is, and how he truly sees women...... that scene just really grosses me out. maybe the reason i felt the way i did all those years ago, is i was feeling the pig arnie in this

Can't watch ANYTHING with him in it. I never really respected him, I kind of marginally liked him, because I liked a few films he was in. The little like I had,all gone.

I may be able to watch that one again, someday. If for no other reason than Linda Hamilton kicks major ass in it. And they kill Arnold--that's worth the price of a rental anyday.

;)

But can't do True Lies--he has too much screen time. :grr:

300. I found out during the last election...
He went to one of the MTV music awards with Puff Daddy. This was at the time Puffy was touting his 'Vote or Die' slogan. I kind of wish he had kept that one to himself--it did little to promote the cause of democracy. LOL!

But anyway,I found out after that Bruce was a repub...somewhere on-line, I'm not sure where. Someone was saying something like 'Hollywood republican Bruce Willis parties with Dem friend Puffy...' or something like that. I was taken aback. Had no clue he was a repuke before that.

Totally broke my heart. But in time, I'll be watching that scene in Color of Night--gawd how I looooove that scene.

what seems a Republican orientation (is he really? more to the point, is he a neocon?) are missing some good movies. Tears of the Sun (I think that was the title -- with Monica Belluci, set in West Africa) was one I just saw recently that is a pretty powerful piece.

151. Oh really?
Taken from an interview in Salon.com:

What do you think of President Bush?

He's wonderful. We needed him. Clinton is a shithead and we're glad to be rid of him. And I'm not talking about his sexual exploits. I think we have a chance to do something about education, very important. We should have done it years ago. It doesn't matter who does it -- Democrats or Republicans -- but it's long overdue. Our education system is a monstrosity. We need to go back and rebuild kindergarten and first grade and teach reading and writing to everybody, all colors, and then the whole structure of our education will change because people will know how to read and write.

You can see the rest of the interview here

Granted, the interview was taken four years ago, but I doubt his views have changed. And for a supposedly intelligent man, he was sure fooled by Bush's false platitudes about education.
Most of his "Dem" books were written a long, long time ago.

217. Are you kidding me?
Are you actually saying that Salon posted a fake interview?

Bradbury's sounded off on Clinton on more than one occasion.
And I've met Mr. Bradbury, too. I think he would use the word 'shithead' if he felt it was the best word for the moment.
Hell, when he dedicated our university's new library, he used the word "shit" a few times in his speech. (It was more like a "talk" than anything. He sat on stage and talked to us for a while.)
But anecdotal evidence aside, I bring a posted article by a respected news organization as evidence of Bradbury's "conversion", and you dismiss it as being "a fake" because you've "met Mr. Bradbury". Puh-lease.

If you really think it's a "fake" then contact James Hibberd and tell him you think he's lying. Here's his email address: jhibberd@westword.com

(And if you don't think Clinton would swear in an interview, I've got some swampland in Northern Minnesota to sell you.)

75. Ray Bradbury is a bat-shit crazy old man
I explain his recent hardcore right-wingitude as the result of Alzheimer's and/or just good 'ol senile dementia, the same reasons why his books have sucked HUGHLY!!11 for the last 20 years.

But when RB was a younger man, he quite frankly rocked. "Martian Chronicles", "R is for Rocket", "S is for Space", "Fahrenheit 451", "Something Wicked This Way Comes"--all present liberal/progressive ideals in some fashion, and all are terrific. That guy was untouchable back in the day.

Remember, Orson Welles started his career with "War of the Worlds" and "Citizen Kane", but by the time he died he was narrating "documentaries" about UFOs and Bigfoot and goofing up card tricks as a guest host on The Mike Douglas Show. It can happen to the best of us. It happened to Ray Bradbury.

I like that!
Bradbury was one of my favorite writers. I even got him to autograph a copy of "The Martian Chronicles" a while back.
But when I heard his elation at Bush being *ahem* "elected", it was a huge kick in the gut. He's definitely changed his politics.

"just good 'ol senile dementia"...

221. It wasn't all that recent
I still remember when he was on Politically Incorrect, about ten years ago, railing against his friend Bob Packwood having to resign for harassing his secretaries. Bradbury's comment: "Who hasn't pinched their secretaries butt?"

During the "Fahrenheit 9/11" hubub, he was on a local call-in show. I was stuck in traffic, so I didn't get a chance to ask him, if he
so badly wanted his "title back" was he going to re-issue corrected
releases for "Something Wicked This Way Comes" and "I Sing the Body Electric"?

When I went to college in the 70s to study Journalism, I loved Woodward ... for all the obvious reasons.. or reason.

Now, my daughter is in college studying Journalism and we talk mostly of Amy Goodman.

What happened to Bob? What a dimwit he was on Larry King tonight. No insight.

232. I second that. bob woodward is nothing but a whore.
I saw a bit of him with Larry King and he claimed that he was presenting objective coverage because he used the word "struggle" in a headline about the White House! He was very defensive and indignant about why anyone should suspect him of partisanship, and adamant about how the use of the word "struggle" somehow showed his reporting to be objective and not complete, shameless stenography.

People my age GOT INTO BROADCASTING TO BEGIN WITH - because they were so inspired by "Woodstein" - and the work they did and the crooks they exposed and brought down. I'm one of those who was so inspired. He and Bernstein both were heroes of mine. Now Bernstein is a solo act as far as I'm concerned. bob woodward is a whore. A sellout. He sold his soul for access because he evidently figures his "stature" entitles him to rub elbows with nothing but the finest, biggest, baddest, and most powerful. He's a modernday Faust. And he's totally tarnished. I am ashamed of him. He is a DISGRACE. I, too, hope this brings him down.

Me, too! I always thought he was a hero! But I heard him on Larry King,
discussing the Valerie Plame case. He said that revealing her identity did no damage, to her or CIA cases. That did it for me, since I've been paying close attention to this since 2003, and Woodward has to know better, and certainly has to be more plugged in than I am. Larry Johnson had just said just the opposite. How could Woodward possibly say this?! He can't believe it... I yelled at the TV, and will never trust anything he has to say, ever again. What a sell-out.:-(

which means he had limited or nonexistent social skills - not really an excuse to be a jerk but he maybe didn't know how not to be a jerk.

Otherwise I can't stand anyone that was "seriously" listed on this thread. I don't watch Everybody loves Raymond anymore, and I don't go to movies that the rest are featured in.

142. some people don't "get" things -- they take stuff at face value
Because they would never be manipulative or lie, they think other people won't, either. My grandmother, for one. A very nice, real Christian lady. But, she loves Junior. Why? Because he's a good Christian man. Why does she think that? Because her minister tells her, and he wouldn't lie. If you bring up the reasons why he isn't a nice guy, she just says, Oh, I don't k ow about that. Those Washington people like to tear a man down. She really liked Clinton, too.... very frustrating..... it makes me wonder if Loretta Lynn is the same. A decent businesswomen, probably a nice lady, but not too intellectually "savvy."

208. It's always bizarre to me
How people have been convinced that Junior is a "good Christian man". I mean, has there EVER been a LESS "Christian" *resident than this freak of nature?

I've got two friends who are Southern Baptists and they LOVED Governor Ann Richards and they also like Dallas Mayor Laura Miller, so I know these people are actually Democrats.

Yet BOTH of them like Junior, and I said to one of them once "Why the heck do you like him? He's done nothing that's remotely Christian."

And they said: "Well my pastor says that Bush's Christianity is in his heart and that he's a good Christian."

It was like...a jaw-dropping moment. We avoid the topic completely now, they're still my friends though.

I think Loretta Lynn is a good person, but she's obviously a bit deluded and unsavvy.

39. Not really
at least I never saw it that way. Jimmy Stewart represented justice and the rule of law, but it was The Duke that actually shot Liberty. It was only when people thought Stewart was a badass that anyone respected or listened to him. Even years later after all he had done in life it was for the killing that he was known and revered (since he never saw fit to set the record straight). A fairly complex little tale actually.

I worked with him briefly before his heyday as a talk show host/provocateur. Back when he had some hair (!). He was pleasant-looking, funny, quick-witted, and easy to work with as on-air partners go. Then he went wild man.

Edited on Mon Nov-28-05 01:07 AM by oasis
He tried to throw real journalists off of the trail of his White house buddies, but the world saw through it all.

He's a collosal disgrace and will go down in history as a tainted "journalist".

His books on Bush which gush all over the Chimperor will be dismissed as mere propaganda.

His integrity is non-existent. His honor has evaporated into the hot air he bellows in defense of the White House and his own miserable, shit stained career.

179. Me too, and I can't watch him, but for a different reason
I hate that he is RW, but that might not have kept me from seeing his movies......this does, however.....I recently read an article in the tv guide about a character actor on the show "Ed" (?) I think, he plays the brother. Anyway, he was overweight at one time and sitting next to Cavaziel on a plane changed his life, he says, because Cavaziel asked him if he was happy being obese.

They were strangers. What kind of fricken nasty line of questioning is that? It wouldn't have changed my life or humiliated me into going on a diet, it would have pissed me off and inspired me to smack his pie hole.

Reminds me of Cloris Leachmen, who I once adored, who said all fat people should be put on a desert island somewhere so "we" (meaning the skinny people, I presume) didn't have to look at them anymore. That was circa 77 or 78, a long time ago, but still can't stand Cloris Leachman to this day.

Long story short, Cavaziel is a tool. A judgmental, narrow minded, puny ass tool that should learn some manners.

305. I love Cloris Leachman's characters, like Nurse Diesel and Frau Blücher,
but the woman is supposedly a horrible, horrible person to work with. Mean and nasty. Especially mean and nasty to the 'little people' (not the Billy Barty kind), but also difficult to work with as an actor.

Yes, the B-word is regularly deployed in description of her. This from a couple of people who have worked with her and another who knew her outside the set. Nasty B-word. In fact, the C-word would probably not be out of place in the descriptions likely to be given by some of her unfortunate costars.

55. Curt Schilling...
I don't hate him, but it sure was annoying for him to break up the symbolic beauty of a Massachusetts team winning the WS right before the '04 election by saying, "I hope people vote Bush on Tuesday." What a killjoy.

But I assume most baseball players (who actually care about politics) are conservative. As a die-hard Blue Jays fan, I am torn over Greg Zaun, one of my favorite players but also a wingnut.

One exception is Carlos Delgado. He used to be my favorite player (and still is one of them) yet he politely refused to stand on the field during the ad nauseum propagandizing of "God Bless America" during the 7th inning stretch.

for the Diamondbacks, so finding out he was Bush supporter (literally, it would appear) just sealed the deal for me. Also found out Luis Gonzalez was a dumb ass when he campaigned for Bush during 2004,and in a fit of disgust, threw out his Bobble head (symbolic, yet satisfying).

It IS possible to be in a politically mixed marriage in Hollywood, however. Bruce Boxleitner (R, big time, has been on "The Savage Nation") and Melissa Gilbert come to mind.

189. You know, I just read one of his books. I'd read it before, but I got
a strong feeling he was a Republican because he called Eskimo and Native American cultures "unsophistocated." Also, the whole perspective made me uncomfortable.

There's a really funny scene from an episode of Family Guy. Brian the dog is driving the car and runs over a man on the side of the road. Brian hurriedly pulls over and rushes to the injured man.

"Oh my god, oh my god!" exclaims Brian. "Are you Stephen King?"

"No, I'm Dean Koontz."

Brian gets back in the car and runs over the man a few more times. :)

Somehow I find it even funnier now that we know that Stephen King's "Mini Me" is a MEpublican. :D :D :D :D

I put it in my mouth and he got all sarcastic and snide and said something like "You won't talk to me but you'll take candy from me?" I spit it right out on the ground. 130. Karl Malone? Ack!
Edited on Mon Nov-28-05 11:14 AM by Hamlette
Damn, this is a problem for me. I live in Salt Lake and Stockton was/is the meanest bastard. Lives in a gated community, won't sign autographs, blah blah. By comparison Karl was a sweetheart. He lived a couple of blocks from me and used to hand out the candy on Halloween (if no game) and buy lemonade from the kids who had lemonade stands. Sometimes he'd pay with a $100 and say "no change" and he'd always autograph something for them. Needless to say, our neighborhood became lemonade stand heaven.

I've never thought about his politics but in comparison to Stockton he was a 'regular' guy so I'm surprised.

Dang. I guess money corrupts some people.

But he has the stuff heroes are made of. I wouldn't change your opinion of him just yet. He definitely isn't corrupted by money.

>>>snip
Excerpts from Malone's conversation with Roggin: "I wasn't going to just write a check, and I didn't want to go to New Orleans where all the celebrities were going (to grandstand). I wanted to go where no one was, and that's why we went to Pascagoula.

"We took six million dollars of equipment and most of the guys from my company (Malone Properties). But when we got there, they (federal officials) told us that because we wanted to work for free, we had to go home. That we needed a government ID number or a contract to haul out debris.

"I said to them, 'bullsh--', we took 30 pieces of equipment and traveled nine hours and we're going to clean up some lots before we leave. So I told them 'I'm getting on my truck, now try to get me off.' I had my security guys there and they tried to stop us but they couldn't - and we cleared 115 houses.

"Then they started to help us ... we had 46 trucks trying to keep up with us. I can't describe the scene. People were fighting over a pile of garbage."

122. How did Dick Durbin get on your list?
I have been frustrated with Durbin (my Senator by the way) in not speaking up as much as I wanted him to from time to time, but I've heard him talk a few times about how he is constrained by his position on the Senate Intelligence Committee from speaking on some subjects. It seems that they can get in serious trouble for talking about things that they learn in the Committee, even if the things become "public" through leaks or investigative reporting. And the Repubs would love any reason to tarnish his reputation.

But I can't think of a stand he took that I had serious disagreements with.

He lost a son to murder, which would have a horrible impact on any parent.

Also, many of his recent "controversial" statements are merely bringing out the issuesAfrican Americans have been debating among themselves for a long time. And there are elements of truth in what he said, even though it is not completely PC from a leftist perspective.

And has given alot of time and money to progressive causes. I'm not an African-American, so I don't think I have a right to comment on his speech. I do know that many prominent, liberal AAs have condemned it, and many have also praised it, or at least the intention of the speech. Your opinion about his speech is completely legit, but that doesn't make Cosby a Republican, nor does it negate everything good he has done. Just like Oprah's friendship with Maria Shriver, and her allowing Arnuld to come on her show, doesn't negate all the great things she's done. And I hate that she did that. And that's something I do think I have a right to comment on.

He's extremely intelligent -- extremely -- and has some interesting things to say on a broad variety of topics, but he's obviously dumb as a brick when it comes to seeing things as they really are in the disUSA. He's still great to watch on screen but he's lately made such wacko statements (maybe he's channeling Sean Young) that it's hard not to recall them during one of his film performances.

Robert Duvall remains one of the greatest film actors of all time. Sad that he's so deluded.

I see the person who filmed being John Malkovich, might been a republican.. but not John himself?

I see the wiki has something but I think the list is way off and based on infactual info

but maybe you are right.. it doesn't add up though

Malkovich family published the Benton Evening News in Benton, Illinois, and a magazine, "Outdoor Illinois". The Malkovich family is widely acknowledged as one of the founding families of the environmental movement in Illinois

Malkovich has been based in France for many years but has recently announced he is ending his residency in that country. He and his French girlfriend, Nicoletta Peyran, have two children, Amandine and Loewy.

Malkovich caused controversy in the United Kingdom in 2002 at the Cambridge Union Society; when asked who he would most like to "fight to the death" he replied that he would rather just shoot journalist Robert Fisk and British MP George Galloway. Malkovich did not explain his reasons for choosing Fisk and Galloway other than to say that Galloway does not tell the truth. Many speculate that Fisk and Galloway have offended Malkovich with their criticism of US Middle East policy and of the state of Israel.

...and he even had a great conversation with a Democrat who worked at Hewlett-Packard back in '94 or '95 as to what both Republicans and Democrats had to offer for America.

And I always got a guilty chuckle out of his Timber! intro that was morphed from a Jackyll song.

But, like I said, his positions began to ring hollow with me. And I didn't like the gloating tone he started taking or the way he started dealing with certain callers. Must've been the OxyContin kicking in.

But I'm here now, and I'm safe... :grouphug:

Sorry, since you didn't put it in the subject I had to do it for you. :)

Hey, RWers say lots of stuff I generally agree with too. That's because they are so vague, you know? They appeal to our superficial natural tendencies. Once you start figuring out how hollow it is then you start thinking "WTF was I on when I agreed with that guy", lol. I mean who wants to pay more taxes? Who wants our country to be regarded as weak? Who wants people living off of welfare? Who wants to be constrained by government? Nobody does. But it's all put into a hollow argument without merit. Once we start figuring things out then we get over that superficial spin and move onto other ideas. Happens to a lot of us.

I used to have some respect for the man, though I did not agree with his positions on many things. Then the bush puke machine went after his wife and child and he did not speak up vociferously enough. If I were his wife, I would have left him for sucking up so completely to the bush baby and even campaigning for him. I think they promised him the White House in 2008 and KKKarl Rove thrown in for good measure.

This is NOT my father's republican party. Yeah, Dad was a republican, but he would have been disgusted to see what they are up to these days.

You stand by and defend your woman and your child especially when they're noncombatants. He disgraced himself with me forever when he neglected that, and then, to add insult to injury, he whores around during the campaign hugging the asshole ON WHOSE BEHALF his own wife and daughter were smeared. Yeah, them. The ones he refused to defend from enemy fire. Bet you'd keep me just as safe, mccain...

171. Buddy Ebsen and Cary Grant...
Buddy Ebsen was called in to do anti-Nancy Kulp ads when the Democratic feminist (and fellow Hillbillian) ran for office in 1984:

Nancy Jane Kulp (1921-1991) — also known as Nancy Kulp; "Slim" — of Pennsylvania. Born in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pa., August 28, 1921. Democrat. Candidate for U.S. Representative from Pennsylvania 9th District, 1984. Female. Lesbian. Professional actress, best known for her role as "Jane Hathaway"in the 1962-71 television comedy series "The Beverly Hillbillies". Died, of cancer, in Palm Desert, Riverside County, Calif., February 3, 1991. Interment at Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown, Pa.

This from the IMDB

An outspoken Republican, he helped defeat Nancy Kulp, his co-star in "The Beverly Hillbillies" (1962), in her congressional bid, in which she ran as a Democrat. Ebsen made a radio ad that accused Kulp of being too "liberal" and not good for the district. The two did not speak for years after the incident.

And Cary Grant opened the 1980 GOP national convention that nominated Ronald Reagan.

226. Off topic: I had a dream about Chicago last night.
I was sitting at a rectangle fountain with plenty of plumes that would shoot up (rather like the water at the Dorthy Chandler Pavillion in Los Angles). I've never been to Chicago (except passing through the airport) but I dream of it now and then and it's always in the same place and it isn't windy but warm. The tall buildings glitter with their lights.

While I can understand not wishing to contribute money to an artist you disagree with, what is up with the hate BS?

The melding of political and social spheres has consequences, as the numerous threads here about losing a friend or family member over politics can attest. Granted Duers will likely be more susceptible, but this is silly BS chest puffing similar to freeper black lists.

If one stops enjoying a movie or TV show because an actor from there has divergent political views, well that's just plain sad.

216. Not love, but respect: Penn and Teller
We need more skeptics, because there's a lot of crap out there that people fall for. But they fell for the biggest pile of it of all - that a world without laws and where one's worth is measured by one's wallet is a world we want to live in.

I don't know if they're bushbots, but they are Libertarians, and they have a tendency to slant facts to fit their own beliefs. Sad, really. You'd think skeptics would be better informed.

239. No, not republican.
Libertarian-Objectivist, which, in my mind, can be worse.

They support a world where the market rules, a world of privatization instead of community owned utilities and services (i.e. the Pay for Service Fire Department, every road a toll road, where the only community support safety nets are the privately funded ones). Those things are not a reasonable part of the world any of us want to live in... because that world is not viable.

One doesn't have to be Rethuglican to be scary.

279. Read the OP. It's about famous Bush loving insane Republicans. Do I agree
with everything Penn and Teller espouse? Hell no. But that isn't the question. They are (1) Bush critics and (2) not Republicans. So they don't really fall within the scope of "famous people you use to love and respect but now YOU HATE because they are Bush loving insane Republicans."

While you may disagree with Penn and Teller, I certainly do, I'll happily have them on my side (instead of fighting against me) on issues like civil rights and liberties, privacy, the separation of church and state, government censorship, etc.

I'm not a libertarian so I don't expect to share common ground on every issue with every libertarian, but I recognize that many libertarians have as many complaints about Bush as I have.

can't stand her now.

She betrayed Dems, women and Californians, by having Arnie on her show WITHOUT even giving the same platform to Gov. Grey Davis. She sold women out again by making some dumb ass statements to NOT believe the stuff about Arnold that came out about him being the sexist, groping asshole that he is.

She betrayed us ALL when she had * on her show.

I used to think she was caring and concerned and trying to make a difference in the world. I now see her as greedy, self serving, narcissistic, insecure, pretentious asshole who now believes her own press.

If you like her--good for you. For the purpose of this thread, I'm entitled to dislike her--no flames please.
