Why is it that....?
....protesters always have to get arrested at anti-war/anti-* protests? Why can't the cops go after the real criminals (you know who I mean)?

If you ask me, those protesters are actually doing us all a good public service!

1. The police derive their authority from on high.
The rabble, the liberals, me, us, derive our authority from ourselves. No Pinkertons for us.

2. Do not despair...
...you would be very surprised at how many of us; (in law enforcement local state and federal) are among us and with us, ..and whenever it is possible, we do what is right. We are working for change from within the system. :hi:

4. Oh yeah. For sure there are decent folks in law enforcement.
I was a fire fighter and owe my skin many times to the cops when things got dicey.
My great fear is that posse comitatus is on the ropes.

6. But what happens when push comes to shove?
Edited on Sun Nov-27-05 11:17 PM by alarimer
and you are ordered to arrest these folks for doing nothing more than exercising their constitutional rights? You go ahead and do it, don't you? Or what will happen if it gets really (not that it will necessarily) and martial law comes down. If their is an order to shoot protestors? I am curious because, while this is definitely a worse case scenario, I know that things have happened in the past where the good guys were afraid to speak up and had to go along or lose thier jobs 9or worse).

3. At least it's not like it was during the Great Depression...
...when the veterans marched on Washington DC to demand benefits, and the President ordered out the troops (that 'puke Hoover) with Gen Douglas MacArthur in charge.

"By nightfall the BEF had retreated across the Anacostia River where Hoover ordered MacArthur to stop. Ignoring the command, the general led his infantry to the main camp. By early morning the 10,000 inhabitants were routed and the camp in flames. Two babies died and nearby hospitals overwhelmed with casualties. Eisenhower later wrote, "the whole scene was pitiful. The veterans were ragged, ill-fed, and felt themselves badly abused. To suddenly see the whole encampment going up in flames just added to the pity.""
