Update: Stem Cells Repair Luzerne County Woman's Heart

Thursday, November 24, 2005 by Jill Garrett
WNEP-16

Jeannine Lewis, her husband Tom and their son, celebrate this
Thanksgiving Day, at Tom's mother's house. Hannah Kishbaugh, notices a hugh difference in her daughter-in-law since Jeannine had her stem cell treatment, "When I went to the doctor with and come to find out she did have a heart problem, which I didn't know about, and I thought, and I felt bad when I thought she was lazy." Jeannine's own adult stem cells repaired her heart. But, she like many others, currently have to travel to Thailand to get the treatment.

Researchers found the body has it's own remarkable repair kit. The
adult stem cells found in the brain, bone, muscle, skin and blood.
They help the body heal from injury. "I no longer have congestive heart failure. I also improved from a heart failure class 3 to a heart failure class 1, and my heart has gotten noticeably smaller. It's pretty amazing," she says. Jeannine's life has changed in many ways. Currently people have to travel to Thailand, to get the heart stem cell treatment. Jeannine now works for Vescell, the company that developed the treatment. Now she can help other heart patientsget their questions answered. Currently it's not covered by insurance.

Her husband, Tom, really sees the difference. "She seems much
happier, and that was a big issue with me because I was always
frustrated myself seeing her down, depressed. Now she's back,
with what I liked when we first met. We just have fun together," he
says. As we speak, more studies are underway to find out how the adult stem cells, work with the body to make repairs.

3. I assume so
I read and reread the original article from that link and they didn't mention the state. Just think they could repair the damage to Cheney's heart. Of course they'd have to find it first.

5. I can't get your link to work.
Here's an alternative:

In any event, key word is "adult stem cell". That sort of research gets US funding (provided ethical/human subject research protocols are approved), Santorum and others tend not to have a problem with it.

Soon people will be addicted to stem cells. Then...the decay of western civilization.

11. Some on the right want to ban ADULT stemcells, too...
Apparently, scientists can now put tiny little baby souls into your bone marrow, I guess.

If only we could convince them that making stemcells doesn't kill souls, but instead helps rid the world of Body Thetans.

13. This story sets off my bullshit detector for several reasons...
Unfortunately, my wife is bugging me to get off the computer, so I don't have time to look into it right now. But:

1) The woman who was healed "now worksfor Vescell, the company that developed.."

2) There have been instances of people getting scammed by fake stem-cell therapies taken abroad. With most rational people from Western countries becoming to savvy to part with money spent on faith-healers and psychic surgeons, many are falling prey to fake stem-cell doctors.

I hate to dump this and then "not do the homework," but I have to go.

Someone else want to chime in?

It's instead of its. Lots of punctuation errors.

None of which proves that the story is bullshit, but sets off my detector, too.

21. Perhaps. Perhaps not.
It is entirely possible that her CHF has improved as a result of drugs she is taking. When I was first diagnosed with CHF three years ago, my heart was huge and my BNP levels (a protein produced when the heart is enlarged) were so high my doctors, who work exclusively on CHF patients, were almost certain I'd need a transplant. Instead, through pharmaceuticals and following instructions about sodium and exercise, I have been asymptomatic (in CHF circles it's called "compensated") for 2 1/2 years and my heart if "normal" sized although it still does not pump as efficiently as it did before the virus that caused my CHF.

So her recovery might be the result of the stem cells. Or it might not.
