David Duke in Damascus to express solidarity with Syria
Former US Louisiana Representative David Duke on Monday expresses solidarity with Syria in face of the pressures and threats against the country.

Duke told a news conference at the 'Nation's Tent' at Rawda Square in Damascus that "I have come to Syria to express my support to the Syrian people and their just stances...it's the duty of every free man to reject the conspiracies and threats Syria is exposed to."

He added that the pro-Israel neoconservatives in the US have influence on their country's foreign policy and have been working behind the scenes through their mass media in the US to hide "the reality of Israeli terrorism against the Arabs."

On the war on Iraq, the former US Senator said the war has created a crisis in the world, adding that those who advised the American administration to go into this war have been working to widen the scope of the crisis to spread it to other countries in the region.

3. message of this GOP PR stunt: If Duke is against invading Syria...
we should be for it.

And we are anti-Semitic if we don't back invading Syria.

No.

Disagreeing with Israel's policies doesn't make someone anti-Semitic anymore than disagreeing with China's human rights policy would make them anti-Chinese.

7. Thanks for seeing right through the tactic.
Whew...I was worried when I read the OP. I guess I should have more faith in the reasonableness and smarts of my fellow DUers.

David Duke is so horrible, but opposition to Israeli policies, and/or the questioning of our own government's policies, should not suffer guilt by association.

18. You say...
"David Duke is so horrible, but opposition to Israeli policies, and/or the questioning of our own government's policies, should not suffer guilt by association." But what about when the opposition to Israeli policy is based in hate for the population and not the actual policies? Do you not find that odious? Or is it only bad when "one" side does it? Or do you think Duke actually hates Israeli policies and not Jews?

19. David Duke is an extremist whose opinions in general aren't representative
of many in our country. To even attempt to discuss Israeli/U.S government issues in the context of David Duke is absurd, imo.

It's like, redherringsville, man.

17. Here's an exercise for you.
You say: "Disagreeing with Israel's policies doesn't make someone anti-Semitic anymore than disagreeing with China's human rights policy would make them anti-Chinese." I agree with you.

Here's the exercise:

Are David Duke, and his kind, anti-Israeli because of Israeli policy or because they are anti-Semites (Judeophobes)?

I am guessing you will guess that David Duke hates Israel for its Jews and not its policies.

Therefore, isn't it possible that some "anti-Israelis" hate Israel for its population and not its policies, even those on the left?

Also, isn't it possible that the GOP is setting up their scapegoat? Get the "right" to hate Israel because they are anti-Semites and get the "left" to hate Israel as the reason we are fighting in the ME?

Israel is often called a 'puppet-master' by both the right and left. Has it ever occurred to you or others that Israel may be the 'puppet?' The right hates the Jews and the left hate Israel, but the focus becomes Jews/Israel and not the actual perpetrators.

Right: "Jews run the media and control Congress."
Left: "Congress is the "bitch" of Israel and filters the media."

Sounds like different sides of the same coin.

4. Hey, David keep right on talking for the GOP
He puts a big racist face on them, just where it belongs.

Hey, isn't Damascus where Saul became Paul? Oh, wait, Duke is already a homophobic sexist pig - never mind.

15. Good point.
He, and his ilk, want Jews dead or "contained." Then, they can focus on the other "non-human" peoples of the world.

14. David Duke likes brown people if they hate/fight Jewish people
Otherwise, David Duke and his kind would toss everybody into the ovens who isn't a WASP.

16. I honestly think Duke would do anything to keep selling books
He likes being famous and makes money off of his politics. The people who support him believe what he says, but I'm not convinced he actually believes in anything.
