What questions would you like to ask conservatives?
Edited on Fri Nov-25-05 06:19 PM by Chichiri
I'm trying to compile a list that all modern conservatives should ask themselves, and I'm soliciting suggestions. These can be questions to which you're honestly curious about the answers, or rhetorical questions designed to make them reconsider something. Just please keep them civil.

A good example of such questions can be found here.

2. I honestly want them to tell me what it would take
for them to admit they were wrong AND to accept an alternative POV.

I'm not asking them to admit they are wrong. Just asking them to reflect on what they are using for their standard of knowledge.

I think Dave Chappell had a setup like this on one of his episodes, when they were asking what it would take for them to convict R Kelly or OJ.

The link isn't working for me atm btw.

6. I had a couple already in mind when I read your last sentence,
"please keep them civil." That makes the task more difficult, because it prevents me from asking obvious things like, "Why are you people such a pack of small-minded, reality-denying f*ckwits?" So, hemmed in by the constraints of civility, I might ask, "Why is your philosophy of governance so devoid of compassion?"

17. If you did ask them that, the answer would be,
"Huh?" because they would not understand all those big words.

8. I'd like to ask them why they lie so much
If you have a separate ideology and you want that message to get out , then why all the deception, distortions and outright lies?

Can't you make your point using facts, real quotations and evidence?

If you have a truly superior ideology, then why do you need to mislead all the time?

14. Is it possible to have a government...
independent of global corporations?

What is your idea of the perfect American society?

Explain your position on what part one's sexuality plays in your perfect society? Please include role models for your views.

Explain what the American family looks like in your view, and what it's chances are of survival.

When you hear the term 'made in America' what comes to mind?

Are you proud of the results of a republican controlled government?

Do you own property in another country?

15. Who/what do you think is going to pay back the deficit?
1) If cutting taxes on both corporations and high income households is important to stabilizing the economy as conservatives say, how do you perceive this to work? 1a) Have you seen lower prices from corporations as a result? 1b) Have you truly seen an increase in philanthropy and jobs created producing high ticket items?

2) If social systems such as welfare, medicare benefits, food stamps, social security, and education are severely cut to pay off the deficit how do you feel this will impact the basic structure of where you live? 2a) How do you think it will effect: Child poverty, homelessness, the mortality rate of elderly poor, crime rate, and literacy?

3) Taking the model of: working less hours = slashing taxes, buying a new luxury car = war in Afghanistan, buying a big new house = war in Iraq, have a sick spouse = domestic natural disasters, and pay it all on credit cards = deficit spending. Let's say you just bought a new Hummer, a beautiful new 10 bedroom waterfront house on 2 acres, but then your wife/husband got paralyzed in a ski accident (so you lost that income) plus you had to cut your hours to take care of them, and were forced max out your credit cards and borrow as much money from relatives as you could? What would you do? (note: declaring bankruptcy is no longer an option)

4) With this, how do you now feel about deficit spending?

19. How exactly are you sacrificing to make Iraq work out okay? How
much have you given in increased taxes, in less driving, etc. so that there were enough troops to do the job?

What have you done. Specifically - that cost you something?

21. My ONLY question would be ...
... "After supporting legislation that has decreased American freedoms, taking the tax burden off the wealthy and put it on the poor and middle class, gutting social programs, education, etc., and putting more and more obscene profits into the hands of Big Oil and Big Business, HOW DO YOU SLEEP AT NIGHT?"

By my book, that's EXTREMELY civil.

27. well
if they are business owners or potential business owners, as in have a fantasy of being a millionaire one day, then i sort of ask them in a roundabout way if they are not worried abt the cost of providing health insurance for self and employees

i actually see business owners now who were formerly pretty wingnut-ty leaning left because this issue of not having universal health care is KILLING them financially

some have to give up the business or self-employment because of this issue alone

i don't ask confrontational questions in person, in real life i'm pretty non-direct & all about avoiding the conflict
