I learned something from DU today: Conservatives have always been evil
I was reading another post when I learned that Republicans attempted a coup on FDR! I had never heard of this before, so I started doing some research. Wiki has an entire article on the subject, but this excerpt is of particular interest:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_Plot#McCormack-Dickstein_Committee

Given a successful coup, Butler would have held near-absolute power in the newly created position of "Secretary of General Affairs," while Roosevelt would have assumed a figurehead role. Butler would then have implemented fascist measures to combat the Depression, as some conservatives at the time felt that such steps were necessary to ward off communist influence while preventing drastic changes in the economic structure.

4. The difference is
that if you took someone independent and unattached to American politics. Then lay out the policy's and past actions of Conservatives and Liberals. I am 150% sure they would rule Conservative actions and policy's to be more "Evil" of a thought process!

10. That Ratzinger picture in your signature is really creepy.
Some people consider him the anti-christ.

15. I don't refer to him as the pope
I refer to him, only and always, as "Former Nazi/Hitler youth John Ratzinger".

He does not deserve the moniker "holy". Never did, never will.

I cried and screamed bloody murder when he was selected.

That former Nazi doesn't represent me anymore than my grandson-of-a-Nazi pResident does.

2. Smedley Butler is a personal hero of mine.
BTW he stars in a historical novel set in 1931 Nicaragua. Also in the novel are Sandino (think Sandinista), Somoza & the United Fruit Co. The novel: A Few Good Men by William Overgard.

5. I never heard of this before either.
This just shows you the extreme measures the GOP will take to gain power.I keep believing that one day the U.S. will become fascist.I've heard people say that it may happen soon when our economy gets too depressed from the deficit, and chaos breaks loose.

6. Most of them are just scared people
They're scared their spouse will leave, that their children will rebel (and turn into us), and that maybe the preacher talking about the rapture is lying to get more donations. Scared people do evil things, especially when they're being led by sharp dealers who know how to exploit the fear.

8. One must take care using labels, though.
Conservative during the Revolution supported the crown, but there are conservatives today who are absolutist on the Bill of Rights, against the Patriot Act and "conservative" of the environment.

Butler was chosen because he was conservative. It's just that he wasn't that kind of conservative. That said, we all know what we mean.

12. Right, to paint all of those, and these people as Conservatives,
is the same as saying past and present communists and socialists are liberals.

13. You are right. Perhaps, then, it was the NeoCons who existed back then
I believe it would be the same crowd of RW Extremists who will do ANYTHING to ANYONE in order to obtain POWER.

Check out this entry they made:

DUmmie Underground (aka (Democrat Underground) is a sewer of sorelosin, moonbat fever swamp residents who spend thier sorelosin days masturbating to reruns of "The West Wing" and wondering if the food stamp check has arrived yet.

Just goes to show that not only will they do ANYTHING to ANYONE to GRAB POWER, but they'll also do ANYTHING to SILENCE the TRUTH!

But, once the mods or editors at the site caught on to his game, I let them deal with it. Asshats walk among us.

19. There were movies in that era that reflected on the subject
Sorry I don't recall the titles. One starred, I believe, Garry Cooper. It was a powerful flick of dark subject matter.

27. yeah I saw, later
that you posted this a day earlier than I thought....anyway , great post yourself... and I'll just add that it's amazing how many web sites try to claim Butler made this stuff up, or try to imply that it was an FDR plot with Butler to neuter the fascists.

I don't believe this was the GOP so much as a small, very powerful group of industrialists(PTB} with proven fascist linkage, making an attempt to thwart FDR and they needed a whole lot of useful idiots(GOP) in order to make it happen...it is much of the exact same machinations and linkages that are going on presently...
