Soldiers die for our right to shop early
They call it Black Friday because the nation's retailers go into the black for the year -- or not -- as result of today's sales.

The "news" reports the mall parking lots' occupancy percentages, and the reporters "interview" the lemmings out early to consume. CNN gives the vice-president of corporate affairs for Wal-Mart a few minutes of face time to describe the lemmings' behavior as "promising".

That's what the war on terra is really fought for -- not WMD, not freedom, not democracy. Our soldiers are dying for our by-God-given right to go into debt in order to acquire the latest X-box.

Merry Mother Fucking Christmas.

1. One good thing these gas price costs and heating
cost will do is keep the shoppers from spending as much as last year. Poor wal mart isn't going to get their quota.

8. Gasa is as low as $1.86 in parts of town here.
Average seems to be $1.93.

9. That (dropping gas prices) is cited as a 'hopeful sign' for
an increase in holiday shopping.

Joy to the World.

10. Why are you disgusted about other people's shopping habits?
Just curious. Wondering how it affects you in the slightest, unless you're a retailer and have to drag your ass out of bed early the day after thanksgiving. I guess that'd make me a little bitter.

19. Be my guest. No one said don't shop, but warring to get into walmart to
by trash is not my idea of Christmas shopping or any other store for that matter. Wouldn't want to dampen your Christmas or Hanuka spirit, by all means shop on Garth.

Because they choose to do something that you wouldn't want to do?

22. Overconsumption affects everyone, though. To me at least
it's more than just an irritating habit, or something I personally wouldn't want to do. I'm not a fanatic or anything, but I am beginning to recognize how much "shopping" affects each and every person, not just the person buying needless junk.

3. Communist
Fornicating pinko commie. It only makes sense for expendable numbers to follow what their overlords say, and buy more crap they don't really need. What else would give we consumers meaning, and reason for being?

4. Isn't that the truth...
"Mall parking lots are only about 30% full right now, this is expected to increase after more people wake up and get going..."

"What have you been waiting since midnight for?"

"I'm gonna git my wife a LAPTOP!"

Yeah, just like the 75 people in line ahead of you, Bub. Too bad there's only FOUR laptops...

5. Buy Nothing Day
BND — NOVEMBER 25 2005

Buy Nothing Day is here!

For 24 hours, millions of people around the world do not participate -- in the doomsday economy, the marketing mind-games, and the frantic consumer-binge that's become our culture. We pause. We make a small choice not to shop. We shrink our footprint and gain some calm. Together we say: enough is enough. And we help build this movement to rethink our unsustainable course.

This year, we've got a radical new tool to keep BND activists connected: JammerGroups, city-based local forums. Click here to join your city.

13. This should not be "news"
and I choose not to partake in the "Black Friday" shopping orgy, however describing those out shopping as lemmings is a bit much.

My Tae Kwon Do instructor is out there every Black Friday because she buys toys, games and clothes for children at a local women and children's shelter. Getting out for the 5:00am shopping makes the difference between getting certain gifts for the children or not, and allows her to get gifts for all of the children at the shelter.

While you sit here trashing Black Friday, she has turned it around to benefit children in need.

18. don't be ridiculous
soldiers are not fighting for our right to shop early, facts not in evidence, if you have any proof of this allegation, produce it

there is nothing wrong w. reporting legitimate business and economic news, and black friday results are an important economic indicator, not just a pleasant sport for the bargain hunter

the war on terra is abt halliburton, which pays dick cheney's stock options, was abt to go bankrupt because of its unwise purchase of dressler which intangled it in the asbestos litigation, because of war, halliburton is now hugely profitable instead of bankrupt

if you shop early at halliburton, suggest you knock it off right now

otherwise don't blame the consumer for something not her fault, the bargain hunter is just trying to provide a nice xmas for her family at a bargain cost that won't indebt her forever

blame the guilty, not the innocent, when throwing around accusations of mass murder

24. Cheney still has stock options at Halliburton.
They used to be worth maybe $100G. Now they're worth $34 million. That's hardly forced out.

25. Thanks Donald Fagen and Walter Becker
When Black Friday comes
I'm gonna dig myself a hole
Gonna lay down in it 'til
I satisfy my soul
Gonna let the world pass by me
The Archbishop's gonna sanctify me
And if he don't come across
I'm gonna let it roll
When Black Friday comes
I'm gonna stake my claim
I'll guess I'll change my name
