Bill Ford on CSPAN touting research in alternative energy sources
for automobiles. Also wants us to know that the automobile industry can't retool itself on its own.

1. They could have started retooling in the '70s
the OPEC embargo was a wakeup call. The auto industry, especially in the US, chose to ignore it.

2. LOL! Wait, let me guess...
These mighty captains of industry can only retool with the help of massive government bail-outs!

4. I laugh, but really it enrages me how they get to have it both ways.
They run to the government crying every time they get into trouble, which is pretty frequently, but whenever anybody suggests something like increasing CAFE standards, they scream that the government needs to get out of their way, independent (and mighty) Captains of Industry that they are. Engines of Capitalism!

And all the while, they're busily awarding themselves enormous multi-million dollar bonuses, which I imagine they justify based on their performance?

Shit, how can I get in on this racket?
