Kucinich Calls For Congressional Hearings On Vice President Cheney's False Statements On The War
Sends Letter To Chairman Of House Government Reform Committee

WASHINGTON - November 21 - Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich sent the following letter to Tom Davis, Chairman of the House Government Reform Committee:

Dear Chairman Davis:

I am requesting that the Government Reform Committee hold a hearing on the war in Iraq and specifically the role that Vice President Richard Cheney, and his staff, played in leading this nation to war.

We now know that the Vice President, and his aides, were at the forefront of the Administration planning and execution of the war in Iraq. We also now know that many of the statements made by Vice President Cheney have turned out to be false and misleading.

The Vice President has had great influence in leading the United States into war in Iraq, and has used his influence to make false statements, mislead the public and attack those who oppose the war and have demanded accountability.

...

"The Vice President has been at the center of this Administration's campaign to misled the public and the Congress about the war in Iraq," stated Kucinich after sending the letter. "The Vice President has used his tremendous influence to spread false and misleading statements and attack those who seek accountability from this Administration. It is far past time for this Congress to seek answers from the Vice President. No Administration official is above Congress accountability. This Congress and the American people deserve nothing less from a man of such power and influence."

I have no doubt that such hostility is based solely on his appearance.

If Kerry or Hillary was saying these things we'd be doing cartwheels. If Kerry had said what DK was saying in the 04 primaries he would have won the election.

15. Not his appearance, his demeanor.
Yeah, he looks like an elf. I can get past that.

The real issue for me is that he comes off as pissed to the point of having seizures about damn near EVERYTHING. This is a man with no "low gear". He's either sleeping or EXTREMELY animated.

24. He's never been sleeping
and as far as being extreme, he had to be in the debates prior to the primaries or he would not have been heard. With the media handicapping the primaries like a horse race, they focused solely on who they considered the charismatic front runners, tossing crumbs to the others. There was never, I repeat NEVER, equitable exposure in the media for each and every one of the candidates.

Anyone who ever had the opportunity to hear him speak at a live event during the lead up to the primaries came away with the truest sense of the man. Calm yet firm, intelligent, incredibly knowledgeable, resolved to not merely govern, but to serve.

And as far as sleeping, I haven't the slightest doubt in my mind he gets very little of it. Besides the amount of travel he was forced to do leading up to the primaries in order to reach around the media to the people themselves, he was way ahead of nearly every member of Congress in knowing what the contents of the Patriot Act were and what they meant. Most of the representation in DC will admit they voted for it without reading it themselves. He worked hard and won over 125 House members to vote against the IWR. Which of the other candidates in 2004, let alone any other member of Congress have you heard say that the Pentagon has yet to explain $1.2 TRILLION dollars which were unaccounted for at that point in time? He studies what is going on, keeps his eyes open, knows the facts and figures and shares them with America. He doesn't speak in vague generalities.

Until he was forced to travel so much for the primaries, he had a 99% voting record. The first vote he missed was because Delay purposely scheduled a vote during a Dem candidates forum when he knew they wouldn't be able to be there. There were many times he left the road to go back and vote when the other candidates did not.

So how much sleep do you really suppose the man gets? I don't have to guess when I say, unequivocally...not damn much!

40. I worked for the man
but not before studying his background. I have never been inspired to work for any candidate before but I totally believed in him and he had the history and ideas that made me know that my trust was not misplaced. He definitely deserves his props and so much more.

The Prayer for America video totally moved me to tears because I felt that finally someone out there really knows what this country really needs and is willing to fight for it. As long as he continues to fight, I continue to fight for him. Being born and raised a total cynic, that's something I don't give into easily at all. It has to be the real thing or I'm gone.

Nice meeting you and thanx for you comment! :hi:

14. This is the way to do it!
Lately Democrats have been strong and persistent in the pursuit of seeking the truth and getting the word out that we were led to war based on lies and fabrications. I am proud to be a part of the party that places America first and politics second. The bold, heroic, unselfish actions and statements made by John Murtha, Dennis K, John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, Harry "Attaboy!" Reid, and many many others should raise up the resolve in us as a party to step forward and do what ever it takes to see our nation back in the hands of competent leaders in 2006 and 2008!!

Sabra, since you have a thread about Kucinich, I thought you might not mind if I dropped by to tell everyone that in a few days, I'm running a cartoon with a Kucinich and a vegan reference. It's already in the can.

Let's just say I'm anticipating all the crap vegans will get at Thanksgiving from people who feel threatened by your choices.

I'll post something on it when we run it. I think we're going to run it the day after Thanksgiving, since Thanksgiving will foist major eating issues onto vegans.

On the topic at hand, I'm glad to see Kucinich come out swinging on this. We need Dems outraged and saying so.

A lie IS a false statement.

<snip>

The Vice President has had great influence in leading the United States into war in Iraq, and has used his influence to make false statements.....

I don't think we're going to get any closer or stronger than this.
