Cheney's Making A "Major" Speech Today?
OK, everyone from the Chicago Trib and WaPost, to all the networks and CSPAN keep using the term "Major".

Wouldn't the term apply better AFTER the speech? It's major because Cheney's advance people say so?

Well, let's give the MSM folks a little lesson in logic, shall we?

1) First, it's not a major speech just because the person giving it says so.

2) Secondly, if we already know what it's going to be about, wouldn't it automatically be less important?

3) If any conservative is giving a speech in front of AEI, it means he's preaching to the choir. Wouldn't it only be a major speech if the audience did not need to be pre-selected to achieve total agreement?

On that third point, it would seem that an open forum to all americans, despite their pre-existing point of view, would be a requirement for something to be "major". Presenting to the fawning members of AEI would logically lead to the assumption that the speech cannot stand the scrutiny of a mixed audience. Hence, it's not major.

Stupid, stupid, stupid people.

2. Listen I don't know anybody who's more Major than Cheney
He's a major league pain in the ass. Big time.

He's a major league liar. Big Time.

He's a major league proponent of pointless wars. Big time.

He's a major league wingnut. Big Time.

So naturally if he makes a speech it's going to be a Major Speech. His personal major league status bleeds over onto the speech.

Bryant

37. Try To Keep Up Mookie
I'm saying that i'm giving the same answer as the post to which you replied. These changes are NOT showing up in the parent paper. That's why i didn't know they were "purging" liberals. And, since i've now seen two names, from subsidiary papers, i'm not sure that it's a fair characterization.

Just passing on the information.

18. Ya gotta be joking? A speech to AEI is major? The only thing major
is that the perpetual war facilitator and riches driven non-human came out of his bunker.

AEI - American Enterprise Institute - thinktankers for PNAC. Home of those who figure out how to accomplish what PNAC wants done for their control of the world. Home of some of the most vile liars and minds on this planet.

"major" speeches as a way to get some free air time for a political message.

To "catapult the propaganda".

I don't know why the networks, considering their "liberal bias", keep falling for it.

33. He's warning of the Islamic Empire threat again
Just a paraphrase, but Cheney insists that if Iraq is abandoned, Muslem radicals will build an Islamic Empire stretching from Spain to Southeast Asia, which will threaten the West with death and destruction.

He's also raising the old Iraq and 9/11 link, and the "don't forsake Americans who will have died in vain" line...

And he's quoting the much discussed and much questioned letter from Zawahiri (one of bin Laden's MANY second in commands) to Zarqawi about pushing the US into a Vietnam malaise that will guarantee Islamic victories in Iraq and around the world. Wonder if Iran and Saudi Arabia are scared yet?

What a POS.

However, one would think that someone, ANYONE, in the repub strategy room would realize that this particular linkage has already outlived any usefulness. You'd think someone would figure out that they need a new set of lies and they should quit recycling those that are already spent.
