Another thread got me thinking tonight. We need a unified message. Our party needs a unified message. But what should it be? I gave it a lot of thought and came up with the following:
The Democratic Party: Putting America Before Politics.
Why that message? It is the only one I can think of that includes us all. When I roam around DU one thing becomes readily apparent. Though we are all unified as one to the ousting of this regime, we can also all become very quickly rabidly divisive with our own internal issues.
That therein is the problem. We, as liberals, cannot walk in lockstep like the sheep of the GOP can. We don't have just one or 2 messages we can stick to and all agree on blindly. We are liberals. We have many views, accept many views, and have the freedom of intellectual thought to also share many differing views. The problem with that is that it becomes a challenge to come up with a rock solid motto or two to galvanize the base to walk in lockstep, like the GOP can do.
Would the message be Pro-Choice? Many on the left may argue with that. What about stem-cell research? Or the Death Penalty? Or a slew of other issues? Each one, one by one, can be differed upon by members of our own party, or even members of this site. That is what makes us progressives. The ability to think for ourselves and forge our own opinions.
So with that in mind, there is one thing that I believe all of us have in common, regardless of the fiery divisiveness we may have with other issues. That is that we all want what is best for america. We all want fairness, honesty, freedom, civil rights and good quality of living for all. The one message that puts it all into perspective is "Putting America Before Politics". The GOP only cares about their own self greed and political survival. Hell, they even outed a CIA agent for their own political need. We care about the people. We care about America.
Do you agree? Have something better? I'm sticking with "The Democratic Party: Putting America Before Politics".
