IMHO, she doesn't look much like Schmidt. She doesn't have that bitter hatred oozing from her pores that Schmidt does.

14. Wow, really progressive. Another thread savaging a woman's looks.
It's horrible when it's done to Hillary Clinton, Cindy Sheehan or Randi Rhodes, but light-hearted fun when it comes to Jean Schmidt, Laura Bush, or Condoleezza Rice?

Come on people, we should be better than this.

Exception to the above: Ann Coulter. She's fair game.

34. Loathsomeness aside, I consider Coulter fair game because
she trades on her looks.

Criticising the way a man looks is an entirely different matter as men will rarely be judged solely on the way they look, all other things being equal, but society seems to demand "higher standards" from women. Criticising an unflattering choice of dress by Laura Bush is OK, but I get very uncomfortable around some of the comments made about "Condosleazy" and so on.

38. Curious. Why ok to make fun of Laura and not Condi. Personally,
I don't care in the least little bit because as far as I am concerned, Condi is an evil human being, and what she wears is secondary to the horror she causes. It is insignificant.

In my opinion, Condi, if she had had her act together, could have prevente 9-11. Her quote, "Oh we heard there was going to be a high-jacking, but we thought it was just a regular highjacking" proved it. If she had ordered a warning to all pilots, reinforced cockpit doors, given pilots a weapon - ANYTHING, our lives would be so different right now.

41. Ah, the names in that example were broadly irrelevant.
What I meant was that it's fine to say "that was a wholly inappropriate outfit for that occasion" or "that's very unflattering, what was s/he thinking?", but direct generalised attacks on someone's overall appearance and demeanour seem to me to be unnecessary. Yes, I agree with you that there is a strong likelihood that it was within Condi's power to prevent 9/11 and she failed to do so. (Without wanting to digress, I attribute that to the overall incompetence of team Bush, not LIHOP, but that's another story.) And yes, I agree that compared to that hideous failure, what she wears is insignificant. That's precisely my point. I just dislike posts that focus on the dress of the criminal, not the crime. It seems so petty and unpleasant.

I don't agree with you when it is someone I disdain.

39. I catch your drift
and agree with you on that. It's the ugliness of Schmidt's character that is making it okay to to criticize anything about her, in my book.

Murtha isn't the first veteran she "swiftboated". She did the same thing to Paul Hackett. If she wants to dish it out, she'd better be prepared to take it.

46. I met Ruth Buzzi a few years ago at the Mobile, Alabama St. Patrick's Day
Parade. She had noticed our daughter and came up to hug her & she was wearing a Sesame street jacket & she was there for her good friend Jim Nabors who was receiving an Alabama Music Hall of Fame Award. Anyway, she looked Absolutely Beautiful, at least 20 years younger than her chronological age. Made me think that she is a very happy person who has made every moment count & her love of children keeps her young.
The character she played on Laugh-In was deliberately homely for sure. The Schmidt character is another story & not a pretty one. HA!
