The Annenberg Political Fact Check is a project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania. The APPC was established by publisher and philanthropist Walter Annenberg in 1994 to create a community of scholars within the University of Pennsylvania that would address public policy issues at the local, state, and federal levels.

The APPC accepts NO funding from business corporations, labor unions, political parties, lobbying organizations or individuals. It is funded primarily by the Annenberg Foundation.

On edit Bill Moyers on NOW used the Annenburg School as a resource frequently.

15. Annenberg leans to the right - and fact check errors to the right - but
they do a better job than most in getting Non partisan correct answers.

I have seen quite a few "errors" to the right - meaning facts spun so as to not hurt GOP/Corporate points, when they could have added a point or two and spun them to the left.

I have never seen then spin to the left.

11. Annenberg's name has always been connected with the right wing.
Edited on Sun Nov-20-05 11:25 AM by Judi Lynn
Here are some short quick grabs from a quick trip to Google:
In 1988 News Corp. acquired Triangle Publications (including TV Guide) from Walter Annenberg, whom Richard Nixon had appointed as US Ambassador to Great Britain in 1969.

(I believe Walter Annenberg used to own Reader's Digest.)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Factcheck.org has pretensions to non-partisanship, but these remain largely unfulfilled. The root problem is the source of its "primary" funding -- the Annenberg Foundation, whose trustees still are dominated by the right-wing Annenberg family. An 18 1/2 minute gap runs through their genes.
"FactCheck" = Annenberg = Right-Wing Bias
In the uproar over FactCheck.org's wrongheaded attack on MoveOn.org, and in MoveOn's excellent and definitive response thereto, it must be noted that FactCheck.org is strongly affiliated with the Annenberg Center, founded by archconservative Walter Annenberg.
No wonder why Dick Cheney was so eager to cite them -- albeit improperly -- during the vice-presidential debate last fall.
On edit: Adding new links.
The Annenberg regime, when it was founded and run by Walter Annenberg; and the Murdoch era, which began in '88 when Annenberg sold out to the Australian media mogul, Rupert Murdoch. Amazingly, it was less a right-wing publication after the owner of Fox News took it over, Annenberg having been a close Nixon buddy. There was a period after Nixon's downfall when articles were filled with gratuitous asides that supported the publisher's pal and I seem to remember one issue where the article section veered from the topic of TV to predict history would judge the ousted president in ways that history has yet to judge him.
(snip/...)
http://www.newsfromme.com/archives/2005_10_08.html
Yet it was with this purported expose of "liberal bias" in network news that Efron, a writer for TV Guide—then published by Republican Walter Annenberg, who routinely used his newspaper and magazine empire to advance his political and personal vendettas—made her lasting mark, as the founder of the modern right-wing media criticism industry. The News Twisters became its first text.5
you tend to remember. There has been a nasty image associated with Annenberg for ages. Really rancid.
7. I've suspected a RW connection since V.P. Dick referenced it during the...
2004 debates.
Fell right off my list of credible sources at that point.
No time for BS.
13. I'll have to review my video tape of the debate...
However, the reference was to FactCheck.org and it was a discussion
of either WMDs or an Iraq-AQ connection.
If it was "misspoken", as you say, perhaps the fact the documents didn't
exist at the referenced site was even a further diversion.
Still, I don't trust it.
9. Then you clearly don't remember DICK CHENEY said the WRONG name!
AND Soros bought the link so it would connect back to the accurate one.
So...my suggestion..get rid of your grudges..it's legit, nonpartison and they nailed it on the head each time!
THEY had very few lies from Kerry-Edwards while the site OVERFLOWED with the truthtelling about BUSH/CHENEY'S LIES.
Cheney Cheneyed-up as usual because any enterprising person who went to the site he said was directed to the site that showed his big-fat lies and the liars they are.
16. I suppose if the MSM was doing their jobs and openly "Fact Checking" the..
debates... Instead of rushing breathlessly to hand it to their
corporatist masters. (With a firm :thumbsup: ) I would've heard
about this.
There is no news.
Thanks for telling me of this... I am open enough with my "grudges" to
check it out.
19. cool.
glad you're open enough to let go of grudges. Some here aren't and I suppose frustration sometimes spills over.
But I don't know if you were part of the johnkerry.com blog, but DURING the debates, the bloggers and kerry/edwards were RIGHT ON TOP of it posting all their lies and yet the media still chose to ignore it.
We know for a fact that the media was scrounging his site all the time, because they refereed to it when they tried to find something negative to say.
So in many, many ways the media is to blame for this mess our country is in. But hey...they're owned by the Rethugs, the rethugs wanted Kerry to lose and so they spread lies that to this day remain even here on D.U. (who you think would know better than to believe anything from the media).
14. I trust and like factcheck.org
I have been on their mailing list for over a year now, and have found them to be refreshingly non-partisan. Especially during the election but also beyond, they did/do a nice job of sorting through the propaganda and setting the record straight. I wish everyone would use it, you wouldn't see many people trusting Rush and Hannity anymore.
