Hard to read how it was taken. They're no doubt being swamped with calls.

5. Because it's a sham and it's designed to be a trap.
It doesn't deserve the dignity of a yes or no. It's a sham!

9. Here's why
Yes vote = Republicans being able to say "we don't support the troops" and that "we just want to cut and run" when Murtha's resolution offers a time-table. This sham resolution asks that we withdrawal immediately without any preparation.

No vote = Republicans being able to call us flip floppers, and will allow them to say "well, STFU on this issue because you just voted againsy withdrawal."

19. The sham resolution has no teeth. It's just a sense of Congress bullshit.
It can pass unanimously and have absolutely zero effect on the status quo in Iraq.

13. Murtha laid out a Resolution for beginning the withdrawal of troops
Republicans wrote their own version, you can google it already, I'm sure - that demanded the IMMEDIATE withdrawal of ALL TROOPS ... tomorrow... in a sense. With no provisions for the gradual withdrawal that is required for the safety of our men and women in uniform. It is a mockery of Murtha's resolution.

14. Hunter(R) proposed a resolution today
Edited on Fri Nov-18-05 06:42 PM by mutley_r_us
in answer to Murtha's resolution calling for the immediate withdrawal of the troops. Only, it's not as good as it sounds. Murtha's resolution called for withdrawal over time, and for the troops to be situated so they can be redeployed if necessary. But Hunter's resolution called to 'cut and run' from Iraq immediately. Not sincere -- a tactic to make the Dems look like cowards.

So, if the Dems vote yes, they will look like cowards. If they vote no they will look like they DON'T want troop withdrawal. So the only thing to do is for them to unanimously vote 'present' in order to make a statement on what a sham the Hunter Resolution is.

They are voting on this TONIGHT!

24. Just that the Dems 'have it under control'
and that he'll pass my message along to Pelosi. He sounded a little frazzeled so I left it at that.

15. Duncan Hunter (Fascist-CA) introduced a bill to force Dems to vote
on whether they wanted troops out of Iraq immediately. They're hoping to confuse voters into thinking it's the Murtha resolution, which is vastly more nuanced. If Dems vote "yes," Repubs will use it to say they voted to "cut and run." If they vote "no," Repubs will claim Murtha doesn't have the support of even his fellow Dems.

A vote of "present" from a majority of Dems will deprive them of any ounce of satisfaction.

10. They can vote present, meaning they're in the room but not taking
a position. This is a bill that doesn't merit having a position taken over it.

11. No - they can vote 'Present'
it basically means that they were there and are not voting Aye or Nay.

It is a good solution to this idiocy of the the desperate Republicans.
