Have you noticed the Bush defenders are retreating from the Internet?
I have noticed a very strong trend lately on the web fora and web polls: the Bush supporters are disappearing. Read this thread in FARK:

http://forums.fark.com/cgi/fark/comments.pl?IDLink=590486

Note the almost total lack of Bush defenders in that thread. Normally it would be about 50-50.

And the web polls! Wolf Blizter's Question of the Day today was:

Do you have confidence in the way President Bush is handling the situation in Iraq?

Results:

Yes 6% 652 votes
No 94% 9829 votes
Total: 10481 votes

Six percent for Bush! These polls used to be a lot closer, nearly 50-50.

And this has been going on for days.

It's finally happening.

1. they are just sick of seeing bad stuff about bush
doesnt mean they arent supporting him anymore. i think the people who fiercely defended him in the past are just avoiding the news.

4. So it's not just me.
I've been trying to find defenders of * for the last week; largely unsuccessfully. One board where I post is usually about 50-50, maybe even with a slight conservative advantage. During the last 5 or 6 days, however, the conservatives have all but disappeared. They seem to have only two defenses: Clinton was a liar, and their own faith in *. Both arguments are easily deflected.

Perhaps they are "just getting out of harm's way" - like their President. :-)

7. When Nixon left office, you couldn't find ANYONE who'd voted for him
And he supposedly won a landslide election not two years before.

Republicans are the most fair-weather friends you could ever have.

8. We also have had fewer disruptors over here
They only come around when things are going well for *. I've already suggested to Skinner that DU have a plan for heading off disruptors on Election Night if * wins.

I just think this is a very unusual phenomenon and I think it deserves to be monitored.

11. So what are we going to make of that?
If the Republicans still control the corporate media and outspend the Democrats by 2 to 1 or more in the next campaign, will it matter if Republicans aren't getting much respect on the web?

I think the web COULD be politically important, but we've just barely begun to figure out how to make that happen. The clue is in the amazing synergy between internet information and street protests which appeared last fall and winter in the movement against the Iraq War. We made it something the media could not ignore.

The Republicans must still control the media to a frightful degree, or every newspaper in New York City would be asking WHO put all those explosives in the World Trade Center? And might they be the same people who shot a guided missle right into a part of the Pentagon which had just been reconstructed with some experimental new reinforcement materials? And then lied to the media and the people about the whole thing... http://oilempire.us/

A front page article in the Wall Street Journal did bring up the possibility that Bush, Ashcroft and Rumsfeld might be hiding a few things about 9/11. THAT may really be a sign that the alliance behind Bush is begining to crack.
