Courage, heart, truth. What else can you say about this man? He's a giant.

I'm so proud that he's from Western PA. Saw him speak at my wife's graduation from Waynesburg College in '04. Without naming names, he said that great leaders "listen to experts" and are "flexible" and "know when to admit they are wrong." No mystery who he was alluding to.

Yesterday, he dropped all pretense and made the speech of his life for the good of his country and the young men and women in uniform he cares about so deeply.

Not only was he logical, informed and coherent, he was emotional when he talked about those near and dear subjects that so obviously pain him - and should do the same to us.

The GOP response was pathetic, and you could see it in their eyes - they tried to do their talking points thing, but even they were affected by Murtha.

And his answers to questions from various people, even PBS? superb.
I loved his rant about "5 deferments" most of all.

And it's criminal that everything the CBC says or does is met with eye-rolls and a "there they go again" response from America - if they get noticed at all. The CBC have been the only elected leaders consistently willing to stand up and call the bastards out. They deserve a lot more respect than they get from the press and from the rest of Congress.

That being said, we should take what we can get. If it takes an old, white, hawkish ex-marine saying the same things as Conyers et. al. to get the country to wake the hell up, then Speak, Murtha, Speak!

It's not about who gets the credit, it's about getting the troops home. And, at some point, the nation will have to look at the record of positions the CBC has taken that turned out to be right, and Conyers and co. will finally get the respect they deserve. In the meantime, I'm glad they're there.
