I was watching the protests at the first inauguration of George W Bush in January 2001 when I saw a banner being held up. It just said democraticunderground.com. I checked out the website later that day and arrived here with the first batch of people.

Now, nearly 5 years later, it's great to see that there are people still finding this site and still feeling as if they've finally found a community of like-minded folks here. I remember the feeling well. It was very lonely in January 2001 to be opposing this regime.

I agree, it's a bit intimidating jumping in to something new, and I had to grow a tougher hide, but have learned so much and ask a lot of questions (always keeping in mind Google and the search functions are my friends).
