Crisp, refreshing & yet, hot ...off the presses: Bush Losing His Base

Bush Losing His Base
The latest Diageo/Hotline poll reveals some severe cracks in the Republican base. Key findings:
The poll finds 60% of voters think the nation is on the wrong track with 41% of Republicans in agreement. The GOP number is up from 29% last month.
Republicans "strongly" approving of Bush has dropped to 37%, "the lowest since this poll began."
Of those who disapprove of Bush, Democrats and Republicans agree Iraq is the main reason.
Bush's approval is threatening incumbents in 2006 with 26% of Republicans now saying they want to switch their representative; up from just 10% last month.
It's no wonder a joint DSCC/DCCC report says the Republican controlled congress blindly follows Bush's lead. "A startling 91% of Senate Republicans, 80% of House Republicans voted in sync with Bush White House in 2004."

- Pluralities agree both Cheney (49%) and Rumsfeld (46%) do more to hurt Bush than help, 72% say Rice "mostly helps."
-- This admin-wide disapproval is seeping into Congress w/26% saying they will replace their current Rep., up from 19% last month. Among GOPers alone it increased from 10% to 26%.

1. "Squishy" Republicans oozing towards Democrats.
The drop off in approval is NOT the fundie base. They will support him even if he dissects a live puppy on TV.

Nope, it's the moderate/liberal republicans who are fed up and disgusted and realize that they this administration REALLY did manipulate the press/lie to the public to get us into this Iraq mess. They see no end to this war, are paying the fat-cat oil/gas companies to record profits, saw billions of dollars in tax money go to homeland security only to see the Katrina fiasco as a glaring example of the incompetence, the real threat to Roe v Wade looms, and Oh ya, those pesky indictments.

4. Yep. My Dad, the die hard GOP, voted for Kerry and it almost killed
him. He made me promise not to tell the other sisters, he was so ashamed of B***.

Those are the people this admin is losing, and they're not religious nuts or rich corporatists: They're regular old-fachoined values type of people who really believe and expect thier values to be promoted by this admin. Now that it's not, they're slipping.

2. If we have a cold winter wait until the less afluent see their home
heating bill and the gasoline charges on their credit card as they splurge on Christmas to forget their troubles. The popularity arrows are down and they ain't gonna turn around.
