White Woman "Slammed" by Black Police Officer at Airport gets $350,000
ATLANTA (AP) — A woman who says she was slammed to the ground and arrested by a police officer at Atlanta's airport has been paid $350,000 to settle a lawsuit.

I hope this precedent will apply to African American & Hispanic brutality victims as well, but somehow I don't think it will.

1. That's one of those privileges for certain folks.

2. It seems as if the officer used excessive force.
However, it should be noted that the majority of Hartsfield-Jackson (Atlanta) Airport's empolyees are black and stopping or parking at curbside has been illegal since 9-11. (This is the airport from which I fly.)

Mentioning that the officer is black seems not to be necessary. Why does it matter what color he is? Also, everyone knows about the post 9-11 security measures.

3. Why mention their color? Does the original article?
Just wondering.

4. There's security camera tape of this incident
Believe me, this woman was attacked in no uncertain terms simply because she didn't move fast enough for the police officer. Race has nothing to do with this and you are very much mistaken if you think it was.

In fact, this was NOT the first time this particular "officer" has been accused of such things. Perhaps that is why the settlement was made in the first place, since, in case you didn't know, Atlanta police - like all metropolitan police forces - enjoy sovereign immunity and CANNOT be sued for their actions unless it is PROVED that an officer deliberately violated regulations or that the department was negligent in the officer's training.

You're supporting the wrong side here.

9. This is being discussed on 1380am--she cursed at officer and hit him with
her car. Does that excuse his reaction? Not at all... It's just interesting to see how different people are treated.

5. I remember this
She was trying to do what he told her to do and accidentally clipped him with her mirror as she was moving the car. He opened the door and dragged her out of the car and threw her to the ground. I would have sued too. Black, white or purple. Some rules should just apply to everyone no matter what color their skin is. She was not a spring chicken herself and I felt really sorry for her.

6. I'm glad she got the settlement....
The video showed clearly what happened and it was not what the cop claimed.

11. There's got to be a cop willing to slam me and split the proceeds
Anyone got a lead I can follow?

Hell, I'd even swear at him first if it helps.

12. The cop involved in this was wrong
pure and simple--no matter what race he was. But there is still a major problem with racial profiling out there which does affect minorities and is just as wrong and something ought to be done about that.
