Always keep this in mind about Woodward:
If the comments to him about Plame were "casual" in nature and weren't a big deal, why keep them a secret for two years and why protect his source now?

5. My heart goes out to you. I lost my black lab in 1989 and still feel it.
My 'best friend' of 12 years was always a puppy, always upbeat. I knew I'd feel sad, but nothing near the pure grief I felt for months.

Labs and Goldens are pure joys!

2. Just more of Operation Mockingbird, illegal domestic propaganda
Edited on Thu Nov-17-05 04:06 PM by EVDebs
and, like Judith Miller, trying to put lipstick on this pig of a war. Oh, and now, the valiant attempt to protect Libby. Tsk tsk that this opens the door for Fitzgerald's group to investigate Op Mockingbird...and thus bring down the whole house of cards.

Poor Pincus was already caught up in this back in the '70s revelations. And now when he's doing the right thing they STILL try to mess with him (see today's contempt of court citation).

This war within the CIA over who's ass to protect, the agency's legitimate analysts or the illicit phoney 'intell' dreamed up by in-house shops--WHIGs, OSP, etc--and their neocons, is getting heated.

7. The Claim is "Deep Background"
I'm surprised this meme hasn't worked it's way around...or maybe it's the fallback position.

Supposedly Woodward's "agreements" with the Times and white house is that anything he hears or sees is on "deep background"...material that he'll use later...years later...in a book, but that can't be used in a contemporary nature.

Woodward is not a beat reporter for the WaPo...and is more of an "author"; thus whatever he's learned or knows is irrelevant to the Libby litigation and opens up the door for further questioning (as we're already seeing). Woodward's cover is that whatever information he was "withholding" would eventually be published and that he didn't feel he was obstructing as he didn't try to pass the story around.

Where Mr. Woodward is on the hook is for playing pundit to cover his deep background role. And yes, I firmly believe he's carrying water for the regime and trying to play this "revelation" into some sort of distortion on the charges against Libby...but it may, in turn, backfire. Stay tuned...

9. That's right, just post a cute dog photo to throw us off track.
I was wondering about the why also.
