Has Fitz convened a new grand jury?
Under what circumstances did he question Woodward? Has he convened a new GJ, and if he hasn't, is he going to? Does anybody know?

1. It was a deposition
in an office that I don't remember. It was under oath but not in front of a grand jury. He has available grand juries at his disposal if he wants to pursue any other indictments.

2. He questioned Woodward at an attorney's office...
I heard that yesterday. Woodward gave a deposition.

3. He doesn't have to convene a NEW grand jury
He can, at any time, use a grand jury already in place. Until he states officially the investigation is COMPLETE, anything can happen as we saw yesterday with the Woodward 'outing'.

4. I though the grand Jury had "expired"
It is my understanding a new GJ would have to be empaneled. The Washington Note is indicating that this will happen soon.

7. No, as Fitzgerald himself stated in his press conference
"This grand jury's term has expired by statute; it could not be extended. But it's in ordinary course to keep a grand jury open to consider other matters, and that's what we will be doing."

Information on grand juries:

Federal grand juries meet regularly, but the frequency of their meetings varies from one federal judicial district to another. Several grand juries may be meeting at the same time in large urban areas, while grand juries convened in less populous districts may only meet once a week or once a month. Generally, federal grand juries tend to meet when prosecutors need them to consider proposed indictments or to investigate possible criminal activity.

Fitzgerald only has to go to one of the grand juries already in place, use the transcripts from the expired grand jury investigation to bring the jurors up to speed and go on from there.

One sitting grand jury may participate in more than one investigation over the period of time they are sitting unlike a trial jury which is struck solely to hear the evidence and deliver a verdict with no time frame in which they must sit beyond the time the trial itself takes.

5. Fitzgerald, according to Woodward,
had him give his deposition under oath "at the law office of Howard Shapiro of the firm Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr instead of appearing under subpoena before a grand jury."

6. Thanks to all for the answers.
I knew the rules about what he could do, but I didn't know if he had done anything yet--apparently he hasn't.
