How would Rove spin an about-face withdrawal from Iraq?
As calls for withdrawal get louder from all corners, there exists the possibility that Junior could bring troops home before next year's elections. Spun properly it could reverse Junior's tanking ratings and spell disaster for Democrats' chances of retaking Congress.

My guess:

1) 1-2 months out the will start trumpeting the "enormous accomplishments" the US military has made in Iraq.

2) Follow it by juiced statistics about the readiness and commitment of the new Iraqi army.

3) Follow that by a "the plan was always to bring the troops home as soon as possible" meme

4) Massive evac with final troops getting out by hanging onto helicopter skids

If Democrats get majorities in both House and Senate our presence in Iraq will be limited anyway, so Halliburton et al will not stand to gain that much by supporting a "stay the course" plan. Far better to cut losses and maintain control of the halls of power.

5. indeed...
...I could easily see a "good faith" troop reduction ... lets say 5,000 - 10,000 around the May time frame, only to have a blue state "attack" to re-affirm in many 'murican's minds why we are in Iraq (btw, right in time for the '06 elections).

4. America has been victorious in the great battle and it is all due to
Republicans looking out for America's interests. We will bring our troops home knowing we won a major war and proved the Democrats wrong on every count..... Did I miss anything?

7. Pulling out is not part of the PNAC plan. Can't imagine them doing it.

8. True, but
I will bet these criminals jettison ideology for the need to maintain power (actually, them holding on to a failing ideology with all their might may be best for us in the long run)

9. He will say we have won the war, we are victorious. Big parades
and lots of hoopla. Tons of confetti. Bush riding in front of parade.
Lots of soldiers and their families kissing and crying. Will be a hallmark moment.

11. "It was a liberal plot that the CIA just found out about."
Yep, Bush/Cheney & Co. were taken in by a bunch of stinkin' liberals.

"As astute as this administration is, the Ted Kennedy/Hillary Clinton/Charles Schumer northeastern liberal establishment of Democrat traitors pulled off a sick hoax that fooled all of us real Americans."

Sound ridiculous? Cheney could peddle shit as chopped liver and 30 to 40 percent of this country would eat it up.
