R Talking point re taxes--heard this several times today:
Dems will try to tell you that we can't afford tax cuts at time of deficit; we're just trying to maintain the course by preventing an automatic raise in taxes. Greenspan is god and he said that the good economy and the growth we see are the results of tax cuts we've provided.

What's happening in the war room?

1. OK say you are in debt up to your eyeballs at home...
Now take a 25% pay cut.

Don't worry it will be OK. :sarcasm:

2. Saw part of the hearings for the new guy
He was asked whether tax cuts normally pay for themselves. He said it is very rare that tax cuts in turn result in enough revenue to pay for themselves. They 'partially' pay for themselves, he said.

3. He is right
That's exactly the position I hold: there are SOME benefits from tax cuts, but clearly not enough to pay for them.
How could * nominate this guy??????

5. we had great growth in the 90's with Clinton raising
taxes on the richest and it created 20 million jobs. On the other hand Bush has created 5 million jobs. Greenspan has told congress over and over that they must get this deficit under control. Gspan said it would take a number of deficit reducing means to do so. There are three things that can get this deficit under control:
Stop spending or enact Paygo again
Raise taxes
and have great GDP numbers.

We don't have the first two and Gspan said we couldn't possibly grow our economy enough to reduce the deficit.
