Why is Bill Clinton coming out now to say the Iraq War was wrong?
In hopes that people will conflate his statement with his wife's position, since she has painted herself into a corner.

1. I think it may have something to do with Chimpy's Handlers saying...
that President Clinton thought Iraq had WMDs and would have gone to war based on the BS intelligence.

3. Clinton
Bill's just hammering another nail in the coffin. At least with Mussolini it was quick. Bush's stoning will be deliciously long and painful.

4. Clinton supported pressure for inspections
but I think he always said they should have continued. He was, however, always too defensive of bush's decision to invade.

23. Of winning a general election?
Not hardly.

In the primaries, sure, because Hillary will suck up ALL the media.

But, in the general election, Clark has a much better shot at turning some red states than Hillary ever will. In fact, Hillary may lose a blue state (namely Pennsylvania) or two.

6. Maybe...nothing like playing
politics with People's lives. I remember I was very upset that he was making positive noises about going into Iraq when chimpy was blowin' the war megaphone.

I can't find any links on this..am I imagining this?

9. He isn't getting enough press and misses the spotlight?

He's gonna hate being the 'stand by your woman' of Hilary's 2008 campaign.

10. Clinton has always claimed.....
That he would not have gone to war in Iraq they way it was done, and that regardless of the first act, the country has to focus on what needs to be done now.

11. I think so also
Hillary was living in the "old" and failed to recognize the shift in the party. So did Bill, although I can forgive him because of his health problems.

Hillary seems to not be doing much to change that "old" view of the wisdom of moving toward the center. I don't think many people will appreciate that type of appeasement--and that may come from both sides. No one appreciates a person who does not have the courage of their convictions, perceiving no difference between them, although it may indeed be her conviction that Republicanism is better than the Democrat position. A lot of people are plain fed up with Democrats wanting to be just like Republicans.

12. I heard him say we should have given the UN more time
Years ago. I don't hear anything new with his stance. He never agreed with Bush's timing.

13. He bombed the hell out of them in the 90's. He is no one to talk, a day
late and a dollar short. Typical cynical poll driven comment from a Clinton.

19. but
he bombed from the air, didn't commit ground troops and actually destroyed weapons facillities that the UN acknowldged being the final remains of anything saddam may have had.

no american lives were lost, 4 days got the job done.

compare that to what bush has done.

14. I think Carter gave him some cover
Carter's coming out and speaking about it after having been pretty much silent about things for so many years has given Clinton some cover. I recall hearing a few of the mediawankers saying things to the effect that past presidents traditionally do not criticize current presidents.

16. Had he said it before now, the MSM would have made him the story.
The media waited breathlessly for five years for any chance to attack Clinton as being a meddling, unpatriotic, felonious demon -- trying to undermine our wonderful President Bush and destroy America's standing in the world (as well as the morale of our troops).

They waited and waited ... and even tried to smear him once in a while. But he kept his mouth shut, so it wouldn't stick.

Nowadays, even the media has to admit that that mess in the bathroom belongs to the guy who used it last, which is Bush, not Clinton.

And now that everybody else is saying it, Clinton can safely say it, too.
