We were right about Iraq...again
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=578&e=2&u=/nm/20031015/ts_nm/security_iraq_balance_dc

LONDON (Reuters) - War in Iraq has swollen the ranks of al Qaeda and galvanized the Islamic militant group's will, the International Institute for Strategic Studies said on Wednesday in its annual report...

"On the minus side, war in Iraq has probably inflamed radical passions among Muslims and thus increased al Qaeda's recruiting power and morale and, at least marginally, its operating capability," it said...

It said 18,000 veterans of al Qaeda's Afghan training camps were still probably operating worldwide "with recruitment continuing and probably increasing following the war in Iraq."

1. It would be fun to see a scoreboard of widely expressed opinions
here at DU, versus what the actual outcome was. Given what I've seen here as a lurker for a couple of years, and now as a supporting member, I would say DU is batting at least 90% with some of these predictions. Would our Party listen to us here, they might find more truth than a million dollars worth of polls, or a mountain of media reports.

2. Hell, the CIA said this before the war
But ChimpCo was going on their own "faith-based intelligence", so it was ignored along with anything else that didn't fit the PNAC outline.

4. I can't find the archived thread, but...
Edited on Wed Oct-15-03 11:28 AM by JHB
in a "name that Operation" thread, long before Bush announced "Iraqi Freedom", I picked "Operation al Queda Recruiting Drive", but the Party shouldn't have needed ME to tell them that.

5. Oh, damn!
I started that thread, hand to God. I think someone else duped it a week or so later. My idea was "Operation: Pennzoil" - just sounded kinda cool.

3. Wasn't it Rumsfeld who said ...
just after Baghdad fell, I paraphrase.

"It is amazing how so many people where so wrong about so much"

He was of course referring to the War Protester world wide. I sure wish this clip was being plastered all over the state run media.

The statement was correct, the target was exactly wrong.

Cheers
Drifter
