FEMA will stop paying for Katrina evacuee hotel rooms December 1
Edited on Tue Nov-15-05 05:44 PM by Bluebear

WASHINGTON - FEMA will stop paying for hotel rooms for most evacuees of hurricanes Katrina and Rita on Dec. 1, officials said Tuesday as the agency pushed victims to find more stable housing.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency estimates that 53,000 families remain in hotels - mostly in Texas, Louisiana, Georgia and Mississippi - after losing their homes to the storms that devastated the Gulf Coast this year.

FEMA had previously set the December deadline as a goal to have evacuees out of hotels and into travel trailers, mobile homes or apartments until they find permanent homes. Tuesday's announcement marked the first time the agency said it will cease directly paying for hotel rooms that have cost at least $250 million since the storms struck.

3. what fema does best is paperwork. i guess its a delaying move.
Edited on Tue Nov-15-05 05:56 PM by bullimiami
after wilma everyone said fema will reimburse for generator, fema will reimburse for chainsaw, fema will this and that, fill out the form....

ok, nothing doing. we get fema mail almost every day now either telling us we dont qualify for something or that we can apply for an SBA loan.

thanks.

oh the interest for an sba loan is around 2 1/2% if you cant get a loan anywhere else but if you would qualify for a conventional loan then the interest is around 5 1/2%.

thanks and no thanks.

fema, good at paperwork, good at wasting our tax dollars.

wait the hotel rooms have set fema back 250 million? OMG THEY BETTER CUT THAT OUT NOW its cutting into their 6+B/yr budget.

9. check your bank account online if you have that capability
i got the same multiple mailers as you, all saying my request was denied and to apply for a loan

however, the money did appear in my bank account without any notice, just a note on the bank statement that it was a deposit from FEMA

you might have the money already and not know it, let's hope!

keep yr chainsaw, generator, evacuation expense receipts, in theory they can come back and ask for them for 3 yrs after the event

5. Why can't they cut off the contracts to
the favored few--like H*burton and assure that labor hired to do Katrina work gets paid?

8. They should wait for Xmas Eve and let Babs toss them out herself!
FOX could cover it, along with talking heads commenting on how it's time for these people to move on with their lives and get jobs!

7. evacuees in hotels in louisiana & mississippi have more time
they have until jan. 7 & i wouldn't be surprised if the deadline is extended again unless they do a better job of hooking up some trailers for these people

housing is tight, everybody's either an evacuee or you've got an evacuee!
