Peaceful protestors of the Iraq war have indeed been beaten down in the streets by the cops.

without even having a clue what the word means. To them, the word is a slur toward someone who, frankly, dresses like a kid in their 20's. But since they don't dress and look like a kid in the 1950's, they then make the slur.

If they really wanted to say something meaningful, albeit from their own perspective, they would be calling the anti-war protestors "yippies". Then again, I wouldn't expect them to know what a "yippie" is either.
