Who on DU wants to be on O'Reilly's ENEMIES LIST with me??
O'Reilly has challenged progressive activists that he will post our names on his website if we protest his Al-Qaeda-esque words inviting a terrorist attack on the Coit Tower in San Fransisco.

Here is my letter:

Dear Bill O'Reilly Sponsor,

I understand that your business is participating in a perfectly legitimate practice of advertising to consumers. However, it is also (although unwittingly) funding hate speech such as that mouthed by veritable lunatic Bill O'Reilly. While I understand that advertising is essential to the survival of your business, it may be time to consider what kind of hate speech you are linking your product to.

O'Reilly, on his latest show, encouraged terrorists such as Osama bin-Laden to attack the city of San Francisco, specifically naming the Coit Tower as a target. This is not an isolated incident. O'Reilly peddles slander, attacks, and lies by the minute day after day. I kindly ask you to reconsider your sponsorship of his hate speech.

Best regards,
xxxx xxxxxxxx

1. Well, if you can judge a person by their enemies
is it better or worse to have a punk like O'Reilly as an enemy? That would seem to indicate a lack of quality, wouldn't it?

3. Why not?
My foam bed isn't a Tempurpedic. I don't buy from any of these goons anyway. What do I care if they "hate me" for hating O'Lielly?

5. I am thinking of the Sherlock Holmes about judging a man by his enemies
I guess that goes for women, too. If Bill O'Reilly considers puny little me an enemy after protesting his hate speech (which I did), then I'm proud he does so.

6. Well here is the gem to the sponsors
Dear Sirs,

I fully understand the need for marketing and I do not fault you for marketing your wares, but at this point it is important to understand that I will not use your goods or services until you remove yourselves from The Factor. On November 8th, Mr O'Reilly invited a terrorist attack on an American City. With this he engaged in hate speech. In good conscience I cannot support your products as long as they are advertised on the Factor.

Sincerely,

*****
Wife of a USN Veteran from Operation Iraqi Freedom.

PS we are at war, why did this man ask for an attack on an American City by the same terrorists our troops are still pursuing in the field?

7. too bad somebody doesn't have
a form letter generator posted on their website that could be sent to all of his sponsors. it would make it a lot easier to get a lot of people to sign on. i'm not sure if that is a clear description, but i'm thinking of the petitions john conyers uses on his website.

9. maybe you're right.
although it would be a lit difficult to quantify just how effective it is. i just think more people would be willing to sign a petition than would be willing to take the time to write a letter.
