Do Republicans secretly believe Hitler was a good guy?
They sure seem to think that fascism, killing anyone who looks or thinks differently than them, world domination, using religion for personal gain, genocide, hatemongering, giving the finger to the rest of the world, and destroying political enemies is a good idea. Der Fuhrer must be their ultimate role model.

2. Given the opportunity for immense power that GW has grabbed
there are thousands of people who would run the country the same way he has.

16. My mother always told us
Growing up my mother always said. "Bigots and racist will touch your life many times but the most dangerous ones are the ones parading around in business suits passing bills and laws".

It could get ugly if they don't back off this latest aggressive stance they have taken...

7. No they dont.
They're just so fucked up in the head they believe that Bush and Hitler are actually on opposite sides of the battle between "good and evil".

11. They don't know how to assess him
They think somebody is a "bad" person because we call him "bad", as if there's no criteria to establish what bad is. It also stops the wingnut GOPhers from seeing how like Hitler they actually have become.

I can remember an associate of my father's (John Schmitz... old-time John Bircher and far-right whacko, and father to Mary Kay Letourneau who molested a 12 year old boy and called it "romance") coming out openly and admitting he thought Hitler had been on the right track. He usually added "except for the Jews", but I think that was a matter of saving face in public rather than his own real views.

13. maybe some do, but I'm sure many do not
Broad brush labelling of all republicans like that is just as lame as when the right tries to use a broad brush to describe all Democrats. I work in DC with plenty of republicans and I guarantee you that the overwhelming majority don't think Hitler was a good guy, secretly or otherwise.

Hitler was all for racial discrimination, a unified church and state, anti-trade union, military expansion and weird science etc, etc, etc......

17. He was a christian, hated atheists, loved corporations, crushed unions...
What's not to like? The guy loved the trappings of societal order, hated homos and dedacent art, loathed the idea of women's rights, thirsted for domination of the world and reveled in the thrill of dominating others. He's the penultimate conservative, and conservatives love him. They should.

20. The Third Reich is secretly glorified by some.
Why, I don't know, other than perhaps on some level of white Aryan supremecy.

In its basest form, it is a need to believe that one group is superior to everyone else.

24. Fascinated?
Well, I dunno - maybe I should get help, but for some reason I find myself watching stuff on the History Channel and just riveted by the imagery and twisted story of the Nazis. They were a fascinating combination of total ignorance, and yet in the sciences they were brilliant. They were the most cold-hearted SOBs ever, yet probably nice to their pets and polite in society.

Anyway, I don't think Repugs really admire Hitler - like someone said previously - they just know he is 'bad' and un-american so that is enough. But, yeah, if they really looked at the logical conclusion of their ideology they would see that it ultimately ends up there. Of course, they would say the same about us and totalitarian socialism, but whatever...
