Catholic Cardinal rejects "intelligent design".

This is right from the church I remember while growing up. Pro-Science and Intelligent about the content of the Bible.

When Catholics Go Right:

Evolution in the bible, says Vatican

The Vatican has issued a stout defence of Charles Darwin, voicing strong criticism of Christian fundamentalists who reject his theory of evolution and interpret the biblical account of creation literally.

Cardinal Paul Poupard, head of the Pontifical Council for Culture, said the Genesis description of how God created the universe and Darwin's theory of evolution were "perfectly compatible" if the Bible were read correctly.
His statement was a clear attack on creationist campaigners in the US, who see evolution and the Genesis account as mutually exclusive.

"The fundamentalists want to give a scientific meaning to words that had no scientific aim," he said at a Vatican press conference. He said the real message in Genesis was that "the universe didn't make itself and had a creator".

A right-wing talk radio hack slams the good Cardinal on his station's web site:

Catholics would be wise to reject this Cardinal's proclamation and clammor for a more biblically based statement from the church on the issue of the world's origins. And they would do well to begin with Genesis...

3. WTF?
From the link:

"The 2nd law of Thermodynamics which more or less states that things move from a state of order to disorder, not the other way around. Car tires wear down, they do not add to the mass. An office is clean and ordered when someone moves into it, but eventually it must be recleaned and straightened. An airplane eventually rusts, wears out, and is retired to the junkyard. To believe Darwin as scientific proof - one would have to believe that a tornado could hit the junkyard and an airplane would come flying out of it. And that still leaves you with the bigger issue - who created the tornado and the junkyard to begin with?"
