The truth hurts. The White House tries to push back at WAPO
The truth hurts. The White House tries to push back against the Washington Post article calling the president to task on his intel distortions.

-- Josh Marshall

Setting the Record Straight: The Washington Post On Pre-War Intelligence

The Washington Post Implies That The Presidential Daily Brief (PDB) Was Superior To The National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) Given To Congress. "But Bush does not share his most sensitive intelligence, such as the President's Daily Brief, with lawmakers. Also, the National Intelligence Estimate summarizing the intelligence community's views about the threat from Iraq was given to Congress just days before the vote to authorize the use of force in that country." (Dana Milbank And Walter Pincus, "Asterisks Dot White House's Iraq Argument," The Washington Post, 11/12/05)

1. They want this to be a bipartisan failure
While, of course, claiming any transitory successes as coming over the protests of Democrats.

Heads I win, tails you lose.

2. And that's all they're doing nowadays -
fighting back, countering, "Bush fights back", "Bush fires some parting remarks", "Bush attacks critics on Veterans Day" and so on.

They're not governing this country: they're just in attack mode. And they'll probably plan to do this for the next 3 years.
