High explosives 'missing in Iraq'

The UN's nuclear watchdog has told the Security Council of the theft of nearly 350 metric tons of high explosives from a military complex in Iraq.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said it was told by Iraqi authorities that the explosives were taken after last year's invasion.

The Pentagon says that for the moment, is unable to account for the material missing from the al-Qaqaa site. snip

The explosives mostly consist of 195 metric tons of HMX and 141 metric tons of RDX - key components in plastic explosives, which have been widely used in car bombings in Iraq.

The IAEA says the US-led coalition occupying Iraq had been warned about the danger posed by the explosives on several occasions.

It says the coalition forces were specifically told to keep the material secured.

2. One of the largest suppliers? IPI of Mineola, NY, USA
http://www.islandgroup.com/index.html

A major pyrotechnics and explosives manufacturer.
And how did Iraq under Saddam collect 450 TONS of the stuff during sanctions?
Hmmm. I wonder why the investigation into the Oil for Food scandal investigation stopped after Haliburton, Carlyle and IPI were mentioned.

Things that make you go hmmmm.

3. that and it is easy enough to make an analogue of it oneself
with some fairly common and easy to obtain chemicals. We can't JUST blame it on missing munitions; anyone with a basic chem education and a little determination can figure it out, and can certainly pass it along to people who do not have a chem education.

What does that mean?

That means shit is going to be splodin' for a long time to come and there's not really anything we can do about it. Even some of the base molecules used can be refined from common garden, household and cleaning products, plus a few exotic catalysts that can be easily retrieved from any junk yard and refined.

We need to be realistic about it rather than trying to make estimates based on missing munitions.

4. For those of us with no experience or knowledge of explosives,
just how much of these materials are necessary to make an effective roadside bomb? I've heard reports that the insurgents are getting better at their bomb making and I suspect that these missing explosives are, at least in part, responsible for that.

If I recall correctly, it has been reported that we did not have enough troops to guard these ammunitions dumps when they were found. However, we had apparently had enough troops to protect the Oil Ministry building after we reached Baghdad.

5. diesel fuel, and the cheapest fertilizer you can find
Mix in a small canister until it is almost like thick mud. with the proper detonator, you get the old Batman episodes:

Ka-BOOOM!

ANFO is hugely explosive. That was the explosive used in Oklahoma City.
Or check out your kitchen sink, I guarantee that you have everything you need for a very destructive force. or send 19.95 to http://www.nodoze.net/explosives.html

and they will secretly teach you how.

Knowledge is power. Remember, that we (The US, not DU) have a bunch of homegrown nut cases who listen to voices in their head and think that we are evil devil worshipper-abortionists who deserve to be blown up.
