Plenty of people in the world are in more desperate situations, more severe poverty, less education, etc.

This behavior is NOT cause by things like poverty, underdevelopment and the like. It IS caused by certain highly implausible beliefs about the nature of the universe, the belief in a supreme being, and the promised reward by said being of an afterlife.

Any attempt to explain suicide bombers by secular (i.e. real world) considerations leaves the situation a bit of a mystery. When you realize that these people REALLY BELIEVE what they say they believe, it makes you wonder why suicide bombing is not more common.

The answer to this is to discredit the various superstitions that certain books have been authored by God Himself and contain his will for us and the Ultimate Truths. We need to increase rationality as that is the only remedy for this dire situation.

With all the torture centers our very own President * has all around the world, what's to say they didn't just pick up this woman on the street and make her "confess" to something she didn't do, then put on this belt they gave her and take pics of her? Would President * be beyond that? Hell no.
