95 Methodist Bishops Repent Iraq War 'Complicity' - Bush's Church
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,175245,00.html

WASHINGTON — Ninety-five bishops from President Bush's church said Thursday they repent their "complicity" in the "unjust and immoral" invasion and occupation of Iraq.

"In the face of the United States administration's rush toward military action based on misleading information, too many of us were silent," said a statement of conscience signed by more than half of the 164 retired and active United Methodist bishops worldwide.

President Bush is a member of the United Methodist Church, according to various published biographies. The White House did not return a request for comment on the bishops' statement.

Although United Methodist leadership has opposed the Iraq war in the past, this is the first time that individual bishops have confessed to a personal failure to publicly challenge the buildup to the war.

1. While its an important small first step......
Untill they excummunicate chimpo i am not impressed. I mean they should have spoke up during the election when kerry's church was having a field day. Yet they said nothing.

4. I am a Christian and I am ashamed of the way the church
has blindly followed this idiot. It sickens me to think that thousands of our troops are either dead or wounded and now they want to repent? I saw what they were doing in 2000. They have blood on their hands. It is as simple as that for me. They do not care if soldiers die. The fact that they turn their backs on our troops, who are God's children, in order to promote their anti abortion agenda is evil. They are more concerned with the embryo. It trumps every evil thing Bush does in God's name. But, He is their judge and they will have to live with that.

6. I have been questioning my faith also.
That and I have found that I do not feel as comfortable letting people know I am a Christian. I do not want them to think that I am like those on the radical right or like those who have blindly followed Bush because he says he is a Christian. I had enough trouble in the past with the fact that I am a progressive Christian who votes pro choice and pro gay rights! And now this. I guess I am naive. I believe God loves us all.

12. Exactly! Bishops in the Catholic church received tons of
press and an election issue was made from the fact that they would refuse Communion to Kerry if he showed up in their churches.

Why isn't this also an issue for Bush and his lies with the Methodist church?

7. "The White House did not return a request for comment."
Do you have to fill out an application now, or did the "applicant" call and leave a message?

As for the bishops... tell 'em to consult their local agnostics next time. None of us... that I know of, anyway... had any trouble sorting out the immorality of the war as it was taking shape.

Either we are privy to some ineffable, elusive metaphysical knowledge re. the nature of the universe or... the divinity schools are screwing up realllyyy baaaadd.

8. Billy Graham supported Vietnam War
It's nice to know that these Methodists bishops are finally gettng around to picking up the ball that they dropped 2 years ago.

There's alway the thin line to tread between the separation of church and state, some would say that should prohibit the church from being active in political affairs.

13. I find that utterly remarkable, courageous and stand-up

I'd like to see them now become proactive anti-war protesters. We need mainstream Christian involvement in fighting the insanity that has swallowed our country and our culture.
