3. Or...
Illegal Imigration?

Make no mistake, Illegal Immigration is what they're gearing up for. It's the number one issue in the newspapers, networks, and news that's bubbling up for the elections.

Democrats needs to take a position on the NOW! It is bigger than the National Healthcare. If Democrats aren't careful and don't start talking about it, count the elections lost.

They can talk national healthcare, it IS big. But they have to have a definitive stance on illegal immigration. Republicans are going to meld it into the healthcare telling the American public that Illegals cost taxpayers $XXX,XXX,XXXX per year in healthcare and {fill in the blanks).

They HAVE to take a stand on it. NOW!!! and get in front of it.

5. They have to start talking about it and doing it NOW!
Republicans have already started it with their campaigns. They HAVE to be out in front on this!

Do we need to have a national healthcare plan? ABSOLUTELY!!! This is no question on it! But it has to be a secondary point to the illegal immigration problem. Illegal immigration has to be the centerpoint strategy. It affects healthcare, national security, jobs, public education, crime rate, and every other aspect of our American Dream.

We're not talking about Immigrants...we're talking about ILLEGAL immigration. It has to be taken on.

8. That would be a start
One thing, IMO, that they need to do is embrace Mom and Pops as working people. Have you ever known a M&P that aren't working folks? Get them into the realm of that...not just this 'working people' that seem to be labor vs. management. (Anyway)

Yes, fines are a start. A good start, but it has to be substantial enough to scare the small business M&Ps. They have to find a way to incent those small businesses to NOT hire Illegals...I don't know, maybe rat on the competition (?). I seen several pieces where small business owners are 'complaining' with the "what else can I do, I can't stay in business" excuse. And yet, these owners won't report the competition that are illegally hiring illegal immigrants.

Personally, I'd report them. But I've also found it's not an easy thing to do. There is not enough manpower; and that makes the number one strategy, IMO. Make it easier to highlight and report when Illegal Immigrants are being hired and harbored. At this point, ICE does not have enough manpower to take on the task. I recently heard there are about 50 ICE agents to spearheard things at the state levels...that was eye opening to me. One per state??? I highly suspect Illegal Immigrants living next door to me. The was a group before them, and another before that one that have all since moved on. What am I to do??? We contacted ICE; no word, no followup, and no evidence that they checked things out.

My daughter's best friend has a boyfriend who is an Illegal. I was shocked when I found out about his status. He's had a job at McDonalds, he's had a job at a nursing home. He lives in an apartment with fifteen relatives...all illegal immigrants. I don't know where exactly he lives (or I'd call ICE) and after a significant amount of time has passed, he's now wrapped up deeply in a relationship with her best friend. That's another story, but it's a mess.

In any event, without getting into the personal aspects...on the whole it is a problem that is bubbling up in Amercia's conscience. Democrats need to take the lead and provide solutions on it; they need to stand up for LEGAL immigrants. There's not a LEGAL immigrant in this country that would vote against them and they need to realize that.

9. 50 agents? 50?!
That's incredible. I'd never heard that.

Thanks for the thought-provoking post. You're also right there's not a LEGAL immigrant in this country who wouldn't stand with policy-minded Dems.

7. With McCain wanting to send more troops?
While most of the country wants out? I don't see McCain getting very far with that strategy.
