Mark Warner and a Senate run in 2006
Is this a likely proposition? I believe he's our only/best shot against Allen. He would be very smart to jump in this race. 2008 is a little bit out of his reach, imo.

We need this seat according to my analysis here:

I crave a little more info on Warner's future...

1. It's better if Warner waits for Pres. race in 2008. Allen might beat him.
I think Warner is one of our best 2008 candidates. He should not run in 2006 because Allen could well beat him. If he lost to Allen, he'd be finished.

2. Nope. He's running for President in 2008.
He'll be on Face the Nation tomorrow. Let's see what signals he gives for his future.

3. warner's said repeatedly he's not running for Senate
too bad though. would be our best shot, and would make national headlines with a run.

4. There will be a battle with Warner vs. Allen, but it will be
in 2008 instead of 2006. Unfortunately, Allen will likely keep his Senate Seat, unless there can be a reasonable challenger found. Deeds could be the challenger if he doesn't win the recount in the Attorney General's race, but I am hoping that he pulls through. Another possible candidate is Reagan's former Navy Secretary Webb (I do not remember his first name). From what's I've heard, he used to be a moderate Republican, but is against the war and does not like Bush or the current direction of the Bush.

9. Warner's definitely running for president....ex-Sec of Navy James Webb
Edited on Sat Nov-12-05 08:08 PM by Rowdyboy
is the man we want to recruit to run against Allen. Shumer and Reid are aggressively recruiting him and he would be ideal.

11. Why cant' he do both?
Run for Senate in 06 then for president in 08. Would that look bad, or is it better for him to use this time to fundraise and prepare for 08?

12. Mark Warner's first run was for Senate
and he lost to John Warner. He is a nice guy and I supported him in both his races in VA when I lived there - but he sure doesn't float my boat as a Presidential candidate - I'd rather see him take out Allen in the Senate.
