INDIANAPOLIS - Filmmaker Michael Moore told students at Butler University that Arnold Schwarzenegger's election as governor of California offered hope for democracy.

"Anytime you have an angry mob of voters, that can't be a bad thing," the Oscar-winning maker of "Bowling for Columbine" told about 2,100 people during a speech Monday.

The rotund, scruffy-bearded activist from Flint, Mich., who has repeatedly criticized the war in Iraq, said he hoped voters would be angry enough next year to defeat President Bush in his bid for a second term.

1. When it is manufactured, it is a bad thing
I was all for Ventura's victory, but this is very different.

(Or many other's that he's made), I'm still pissed that I found out about him being in Indy too late to get tickets.

4. Phony anger is not a good sign for democracy
Edited on Tue Oct-14-03 04:08 PM by SoCalDem
It just points out the fact that with the proper marketing plan, a ton of money and a few catchy phrases, people can be made to think almost ANYTHING..

"People" were not "mad at Davis" in November when they re-elected him, they were not mad at him in Dece, ber, January, February, etc..

They only "got mad at him" when Issa started running misleading and false ads..

The "angry mob" is NOT a way to run a democracy..

I would much prefer a democracy where people were thinking and acting rationally.. The "actor of the week" is NOT a solution to fiscal problems that have overtaken the WHOLE country..

7. I half-agree with him...
"Anytime you have an angry mob of voters, that can't be a bad thing," the Oscar-winning maker of "Bowling for Columbine" told about 2,100 people during a speech Monday.

Possibly in most cases, but when you have an angry mob of stupid voters, you can have a bad thing.

I would remind Mikey that the those who installed Reagan in the White House in 1980, and those who gave the Republicans control of Congress in 1994 were "an angry mob of voters." In the later case, they even got a name from the pundits: "angry white men."

It depends on what you're angry about, and what solutions you choose.
