"I'm glad I won't live to see it."

Does anybody else here think this sometimes, when hearing predictions about what the world/US might be like in 2050 or later?

Is it just me? I'm not saying I want to die...but some of these things, if they come to pass, I'm glad I won't be around when they happen.

6. Typical defeatist reaction...You've never been to mars, yet you already...
hate it. And you wonder why those sensible corporate types don't take environmentalism seriously.

:sarcasm:

2. Who knows? There's always the possibility of reincarnation
if so, you may not get off that easy. }(

9. Oh, no, let's hope not! :-)
I believed in reincarnation once. (don't now).

I use to think, NEXT TIME, I'll come back and I'll be born into an affluent family. I'll have it better next time.

Now, I realize there's a flip side of that. I could come back and be living in one of those tin and cardboard shanties on the edges of cities in Third World countries. Or in the US.

14. You & I Think Sooooooo Much Alike!!
I was just reading your posts with the guy who got kicked our of his Democratic Club.

I wanted to comment to you there but decided I lost interest in it. Your comments were extremely rational and to the point. I was simply trying to raise suspicion and didn't do the job as well as you did.

So I'm commending you here! There's so much information to digest about WHERE we really started that re-incarnation is ALWAYS a possibility.

17. Thanks for the compliment.
As for reincarnation, my own beliefs about it are sort of nebulous but pragmatic.

I really don't know if it's real or not, but in this life I try to hedge my bets and live a decent enough life that I don't have to come back as a snail.

4. Yes and No!
Mostly I am relieved that I will die before things get really bad, but on the other hand, I want to know how everything turns out!

11. The butler did it!!!
But seriously, I'm forty and I do actually find myself listening to or reading about some dire predictions for the future and thinking to myself "I'll be dead by then". Part of me would also like to see how it all turns out but frankly I'd rather be watching from the astral plane.

12. I've heard this
I've also heard that there is a reason we are here at this time, which for many people besides the fundamentalist Christians is an endtime or time of great change(the Mayan calandar ends in December less than ten years from now, I believe). Perhaps the thing to do is to decide what you can do to help the world at a time like this.

13. I'll be old, but I plan to still be here.
I will be pushing 80 and hopefully still fighting for what is right. But, it is a damn shame that that thought makes sense. It can be a motivator to action and not a defeatist position. We have to recognize that the enemies are people who don't care, because they won't be around.

15. Yup. I expect nuke war within 5 years anyway.
China isn't getting as much of what it wants from offshoring.

*co can't keep up with its deceptions any longer, though some of the people will still choose to be fooled all of the time.

China owns a lot of our debt.

*co and reagan have been trashing our economy because they want to default and destroy it. That won't make China happy either.

I still don't know WHY they are waiting if they know what the inevitable will be.

19. When I was young, I always knew I would live to see
the new century. It would be one where we had eliminated war and poverty and had begun to explore space. Instead I lived long enough to see this world go back to pre-world war II days and we are getting close to another Great Depression on account of the fiscal policies of those in charge of our government. I'm ready to go now.
