The gloves are off !!! - NYT Lead Editorial

Editorial NYT
President Bush's Walkabout

After President Bush's disastrous visit to Latin America, it's unnerving to realize that his presidency still has more than three years to run. An administration with no agenda and no competence would be hard enough to live with on the domestic front. But the rest of the world simply can't afford an American government this bad for that long.

It's amazing to remember that when Mr. Bush first ran for president, he bragged about his understanding of Latin America, his ability to speak Spanish and his friendship with Mexico. But he also made fun of Al Gore for believing that nation-building was a job for the United States military.

NYT - The gloves are off.

1. Gee, and this from the paper that uses a reporter with direct feeds from
Scooter Libby.

The "newspaper of record" is running scared for having had its prestige abused by the Bushies in such a facile manner.

History will not be kind to the New York Times in this era, no matter how hard it works to undo what it has done.

2. What is also amazing to remember is the NYT has been kissing bush's a**
for the last 5 years.

"No agenda and no competence." They finally admit there is no competence in the bush administration.

President Bush's Walkabout

Published: November 8, 2005
After President Bush's disastrous visit to Latin America, it's unnerving to realize that his presidency still has more than three years to run. An administration with no agenda and no competence would be hard enough to live with on the domestic front. But the rest of the world simply can't afford an American government this bad for that long.

In Argentina, Mr. Bush, who prides himself on his ability to relate to world leaders face to face, could barely summon the energy to chat with the 33 other leaders there, almost all of whom would be considered friendly to the United States under normal circumstances. He and his delegation failed to get even a minimally face-saving outcome at the collapsed trade talks and allowed a loudmouthed opportunist like the president of Venezuela to steal the show.

It's amazing to remember that when Mr. Bush first ran for president, he bragged about his understanding of Latin America, his ability to speak Spanish and his friendship with Mexico. But he also made fun of Al Gore for believing that nation-building was a job for the United States military.

22. Can't we just build another White House?
One that sits next to the existing one. One that ecclipses 1600. Then they can just sit there and pretend that they're running the country. But the real president, the one who won the election, can start his job. While the kiddies who want to destroy the world, can sit in their phoney Mattel playhouse White House, and just act out their pretent roles as president and vice.

Well, it's a thought. How else do we end this?

23. Not so fast.
Yes, the Times is definitely giving BushCo the business this season -- the general theme being incompetence.

But I do not believe that the New York Times is actually repenting of its sins. No, the Nixon two-step is at work -- first re-elect the bastard to keep control over politics, then dump the front man to make room for the next generation of reactionary "leadership."

We will get another Carter type interregnum -- maybe John Edwards; some poor schlump who will have to either:

"stay the course" in Iraq or turn that country over to "the terrorists";

raise taxes dramatically or let the country's financial condition go into an irreperable free fall.

Meanwhile, the price of fuel will continue to climb and the equity bubble will either burst or will have already burst.

I'm not just a gloom and doomer in general -- but I see the end of the American Empire coming and the system is almost certainly going to blame it on the Democrats. The NYTimes is just playing its continuing part in the drama -- building up the politicians and then tearing them down, helping to keep people from looking beyond the grinning personalities who have all that alleged power.

29. For the NYT, the agenda is fine, but the implementer is incompetent
I suppose it works to our advantage for them to call him that.

However, any rational, humane voice would be calling not for Bush to move ahead, but to step down, or to be removed by impeachment or domestic revolt.

32. They can't be serious, right? Bold emphasis mine...
Mr. Bush cannot fire Mr. Cheney, but he could do what other presidents have done to vice presidents: keep him too busy attending funerals and acting as the chairman of studies to do more harm. Mr. Bush would still have to turn his administration around, but it would at least send a signal to the nation and the world that he was in charge, and the next three years might not be as dreadful as they threaten to be right now.

Obviously denial is still not just a river in Egypt. bush*, contrary to his personal fantasies, has NEVER been in charge. And ANYONE or ANYTHING that harbors any delusions about bush* being able to turn the worst presidency in US history "around" is living in a complete and total fantasy world. Shit in, shit out.
