I assume that fundies are not worried about bird flu.
The present strain of "bird flu" cannot spread from human to human. Humans can get it only from birds, not from each other. The danger is that the virus will mutate in response to its environment, becoming a brand new virus capable of making the leap from human to human. This would be bad.

But, "mutate in response to its environment"? "Brand new virus"? That's called evolution, folks, something that 45% of Americans believe never happens. Remember? God created every organism, including the bird flu virus, exactly as it is today, some 6000 years ago. Hence, the virus cannot evolve into a dangerous form, hence no problem!

The question is, will we have enough vaccine for the 55% of the country that believes it is needed?

3. I don't want to post this on a forum, but I am genuinely curious.
The Fundies always jump out and proclaim that God destroy NOLA, FA, MISS etc because of the EVIL of the people that live there.

Any word from the Fundies on why God ripped through Kanasas? I thought He was pleased with Kanasas.

5. Let me go out on a limb here. Fred Phelps is from Kansas.
Just sayin'.

4. I said something similar on here once, and
I was met with a post wherein I was told that the creationists (yeah, I know, they're re-named now to "proponents of intelligent design") had a much deeper and more complex argument than just "evolution didn't happen."

I dunno, though. It still seems to me that the creationists are just saying, "evolution didn't happen."

6. They have some kind of wiggle hole that
quick evolution can happen, like birds' beaks can change in a few decades, or viruses and bacteria can evolve, but not big stuff that affects the human family tree. -- no, don't ask me to explain it--it's completely silly and hypocritical.

8. Apparently they want to have it both ways, then.
"Evolution didn't happen, except when it is convenient for us to say it happened, as when our leaders are scaring the bejesus out of you all by talking about the avian flu virus 'mutating'."

Or like they want to have it both ways when they say, "God hates people who are sexually promiscuous... except when we do it."

7. They accept what they call "micro-evolution".
They will say, "Certainly all breeds of dogs were orginally wolves, and selective breeding has made them different breeds. But they are still dogs, and not something else."

I know they will say that, because I used to say that. Eventually I had to accept that the scientific evidence for evolution was overwhelming.
